Y&R and B&B aren't the only soaps with memorable crossovers

Crossover episodes and characters used to be a staple in soap operas back when there were a multitude of sister shows on the air. Now that the network inventory is reduced to four soaps, there are only two related shows left — The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

More: Rewatch the best Thanksgiving soap episodes — here are the top 7, ranked

Last week’s reports that new head writer Sally Sussman is reviving the crossover stories between the two CBS series brings lots of cheers from the viewers. It’s a device that works well because it keeps the audience engaged with the storylines.

If the rumors are true, fans will see Bold and the Beautiful’s Deacon Sharpe, played by Sean Kanan, turn up on Y&R as Ashley Abbott’s (Eileen Davidson) new flame. It’s the perfect way to bring Davidson’s character back to the forefront on the long-running show.

The buzz around this crossover possibility has us reminiscing about some of our favorite crossovers in soap history. How many do you remember?

More: Fans are in a panic that The Bold and The Beautiful is getting canceled

1. The epic villain

Sheila on Bold and Beautiful

Sheila on Bold and Beautiful

The late William J. Bell, creator of Y&R and B&B, knew he had supervillain who he couldn’t get rid of. Once Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) wore out her welcome in Genoa City, he spun her off to torment the folks in Los Angeles on B&B. Sheila managed to wreak havoc in her new city with an affair, blackmail and even holding up the Forrester family at gunpoint.

2. Beloved character

Angie and Jacob on The City

Angie and Jacob on The City

Debbi Morgan played Angie Hubbard for years on All My Children, but creator Agnes Nixon knew to keep her story going on two more of her shows — Loving and The City.

Angie moved her family from Pine Valley to Loving's quaint town of Corinth, Pennsylvania, where she found herself in a love triangle with her second husband and her late first husband’s identical cousin, Jacob, played on both shows by Darnell Williams.

The triangle ended with Jacob and Angie starting over in Soho in The City, where they had a baby girl together. It’s a complicated history for such a beloved character.

3. Married to the mob

Tracy moves to The City

Tracy moves to The City

Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) was legendary on General Hospital for trying to meddle in her family’s company and take over the business. When that attempt failed, she moved on to The City, where she successfully dethroned Sydney Chase (Morgan Fairchild) as the villain du jour.

Tracy got involved with a mob boss and dove right into organized crime because that woman loved the rush of power. Even though she eventually made it back to Port Charles, her mob boss days still haunted her.

4. Mother-daughter reunion

Anna and Robin on All My Children

Anna and Robin on All My Children

Fans loved the mother-daughter relationship between Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). GH viewers begged for a reunion for years, but it didn’t come on the show they expected. It happened on All My Children.

In an age-old soap plot device, Hughes played twin sisters. Alex was living in AMC’s Pine Valley and married to a royal. Anna came to town as an amnesiac after supposedly dying in an explosion with her ex-husband a decade ago on GH.

The convoluted story ultimately reunited the two darlings of ABC so the fans got exactly what they wanted, just on a different show.

5. Love gone wrong

Ashley on Bold and the Beautiful

Ashley on Bold and the Beautiful

Taking Y&R’s beloved Ashley Abbott out of Genoa City felt wrong, but she did it for a time after having a fling in France with Bold and the Beautiful’s Rick Forrester (Kyle Lowder).

A vacation affair goes sour when Ashley turns up in Los Angeles to work for Forrester Creations and she takes up with Rick’s stepbrother Ridge (Ron Moss). While involved with Ashley, Ridge rekindles his romance with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Brooke’s crazy brother Storm (William deVry) becomes obsessed with Ashley.

That turn of events was enough to send Ashley packing her bags and hightailing it back to Europe for Forrester International. The waters at Bold and the Beautiful were just too dangerous for our Y&R gal.

Witness the moments that defined Barack Obama in new Netflix film Barry

History and politics nerds, are you ready?

More: Here's what President Obama said to Malia and Sasha about the election

A biopic showing President Barack Obama's years at Columbia University is coming to Netflix, and the first full trailer is finally out.

First full trailer for Barack Obama biopic Barry

First full trailer for Barack Obama biopic Barry

The trailer shows Devon Terrell's portrayal of the teen who would go on to become the 44th president of the United States, and he seems perfectly suited for the role (how well did he nail Obama's accent?!). In the trailer, we get to see some of the challenges a young Obama faced, like getting profiled by a racist security guard who demands his ID while letting other students pass, and a dramatic scene where he gets punched in the face by another character, who we can't identify from the short clip in the trailer.

More: President Obama wants Beyoncé to inspire recent college grads

Throughout the trailer, Obama wonders where he fits in, being half black and half white. A friend tells him he fits everywhere, but, looking despondent, a young Obama replies that he feels like he fits nowhere (spoiler alert: He fits right into the Oval Office!).

Then there are the inspiring moments, like when a young Obama describes his mother from Kansas and father from Kenya to a man who asks, "Do you know what that makes you?" Obama looks alarmed, like he's expecting something racist, before the man tells him, "That makes you American."

The film is written and directed by graduates of Columbia University; director Vikram Gandhi actually lived next door to where Obama lived when he was attending the school.

Barry premieres on Netflix Dec. 16, and I'll just be over here counting the days (and planning my nerdy viewing party) until then.

Actress Ellie Kemper finally clears up her baby name 'misunderstanding'

Sometimes, celebrity parents like to keep us in the dark about their little bundles of joy — yes, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, we're looking at you — but sometimes they just forget that they haven't actually officially introduced their child to the world. Like Ellie Kemper, who gave birth to her first child in August, but never announced the name.

More: This printable guide is about to solve all your baby-naming squabbles

Kemper was surprised that her son's name wasn't common knowledge — and for the record, he's called James Miller Koman.

"Oh no, he has a name! That’s so funny, it’s James!" she said at the American Museum of Natural History's 2016 Museum Gala Thursday night. She appeared to find the misunderstanding genuinely hilarious, joking, "What if we were so mortified by his name we were like, 'Don’t tell anyone!'?"

James, a Shakespearean baby boy name meaning "supplanter," is one of those baby boy names that never seems to fall out of favor. It recently came in No. 1 in a poll of America's all-time favorite boy names, and was No. 7 in the U.S. chart in 2015. Whether you're looking for a name that's biblical, royal or fitting for a world leader (more U.S. chief executives have been named James than any other name), James ticks all the boxes. It's also the name of dozens of creative greats, from musician James Brown to puppeteer James "Jim" Henson.

More: Get creative with these inventive (yet totally cool) baby names

Other celebrity parents who've chosen James for their sons include Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Colin Farrell and Liz Phair. And Brendan Fehr and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds tore up the rule book and gave it to their daughters.

Kemper was also happy to talk about how much she's loving being a mom and how much it has changed her life for the better. "Things take on different significance, in a good way," she said. "I think you’re forced to not think about yourself, which is great for me because I don’t like to think about myself. And now everything is put into perspective, which is healthy."

Does Drake's Apple commercial totally prove he's dating Taylor Swift?

The rumor mill swirled last month when Taylor Swift attended Drake’s birthday party in West Hollywood and the two supposedly spent a lot of time together. Seeming to take pleasure in the rumors, Drake posted a shot of himself with Swift on Instagram. And then everything died down, and we’ve heard nothing more — until now.

Drake's new Apple comercial

Drake's new Apple comercial

More: 8 times Drake was actually hilarious, including that 'Bad Blood' Apple ad

Drake dropped a new Apple Music commercial last night, which is as over-the-top absurd as it is delightfully watchable. Basically, Drizzy fires up a secret playlist after his trainer leaves the private gym in which he is getting his sweat on and pumps Swift’s “Bad Blood” at high volume, lip-synching along with it in classic Drake fashion. After getting his (awkward) dance moves on, he proceeds to the weight bench, where he finds himself unable to chest press the gigantic weight he has in his hands — and then falls off the bench.

More: 20 things you didn't know about Drake

Honestly, the bench fall doesn’t make much sense — he pretty much catapults himself off the bench — but the whole thing is clearly in homage to Swift’s Apple Music commercial from earlier this year in which she hits the treadmill while listening to Drake and Future’s hit “Jumpman” and then winds up falling off the back of the treadmill (pretty much everyone’s worst fear).

More: Taylor Swift's fans turn against her after Apple Music video release

Swift posted the commercial on Instagram last night alongside the caption “YES @champagnepapi #drakevsbenchpress.” Drake followed suit, posting the commercial and the caption “@taylorswift @applemusic @21savage #SwiftGains #NoMercy #LightWork #Draylor” a few hours later.

Obviously, the pair is having a great time trolling us all. It definitely doesn’t seem like Drake and Swift — or should we say “Draylor,” as Drake did — are actually dating, but they are certainly pals and enjoying the ridiculousness of the rumors. Or, you know, they’re secretly in love. Doubtful, though: It really isn’t Swift’s forte to keep her relationships under wraps.

How to keep your poinsettia plant thriving year-round

$

Poinsettias: They're not just for Christmas anymore.

Yes, they are a major staple when it comes to the holiday season, but with a little TLC, your poinsettias can look gorgeous all year round. Instead of giving your poor plant the old heave-ho this year after Christmas, why not keep the party going? Not only will it bring some year-round color to your space, but it will also save you a little cash next holiday season when it comes time to buy new flowers.

More: How to keep your Christmas tree fresh and fragrant through the holidays

Here are some tips for keeping your poinsettia plant healthy beyond New Year's.

Poinsettia care schedule

If you're wondering how the heck you get your poinsettia to re-bloom next year, you should know the task is not a straightforward one — but if you love gardening and nurturing a houseplant, you will find the poinsettia to be worth the effort. Kind of like learning new dance steps. To make the process easier, I've created a monthly schedule to help you know what to do and when, hopefully relieving any frustration so you can simply enjoy the process. (And then gloat when others ask where you got your plant next year!)

January through March

Simply continue to water the poinsettia as you would any plant, never allowing the soil to completely dry. If you need something to drink so does your poinsettia.

April

Now it needs to hibernate a little. So to help it go dormant, beginning April 1, gradually decrease water, allowing the soil to get dry between watering. Be careful the stem does not begin to wither. Should this happen your plant is rejecting your efforts, thus declining fast and no doubt soon will make it into your trash. After a couple of weeks, the plant will have got use to this drying process, so you can move it to a nice coldish place that stays around 60 degrees F (like a cellar or a furnace room; in an apartment, control the temperature as much as you can — your best bet may be against an outside wall, and definitely out of direct sunlight.) Water very little, never soaking or allowing it to sit in water.

May

A month after you moved it into the cooler spot — mid-May — cut all stems back to finger length (about 4 inches.) To be ready for the plant's eventual growth spurt, take this time to repot the poinsettia in a somewhat bigger container. If it is still in the plastic pot, I switch it into something more decorative, too. Take your time and water well to wake it up. Now you can bring back to the sunniest spot you have in your home, this will keep it at a temperature up to 75 degrees F throughout the summer and into September, even when you have your AC on. Continue watering on a regular schedule. You should soon begin to notice some regeneration — stalks, sprouts or leaves — a sign that you are half way there. This is the best time to begin fertilizing, too. Fertilize a couple times a month with a good complete fertilizer — simply use a regular houseplant fertilizer mixed at half strength.

Up next: Caring for you poinsettia in June

Originally published December 2015. Updated November 2016.

{pageBreak}

June

You can now move your poinsettia outside for a summer blast of sunshine and temperatures. Keep it in a partially shaded location and never in direct sunlight. Water regularly and give a little extra fertilizer once near the end of this month.

July

Right after July 4, take a moment and cut back each stem the length of your thumb tip. It's tempting to leave the growth, but if left uncut now, the poinsettia will grow rather leggy and lanky. Not their best look.

August through September

By mid-August, each branch will have new growth. Once again, pinch or cut them back to a small handful of leaves on each shoot. Now's the time to bring the plant back inside (so the temperature remains regular) and place in your sunny window. Water regularly, and add the fertilizer mix once per month.

More: Super-easy marbled glass ornaments are a Christmas DIY anyone can handle

October

To get poinsettias to re-bloom, at this point they must be limited to 12 hours or less of sunlight per day. This might sound tricky, but all you have to remember is that starting October 1 until almost the end of November, keep your plant in complete darkness from 5 pm to 8 am. (Like a toddler with a very early bedtime!) No exposure to light as this will delay blooming. Even quick exposure to light will affect the blooming, so the easiest thing to do is to put it in a closet you know you won't be using until the next morning. During the day, place the plant back in its sunny window and continue to water and fertilize.

November

The last week in November you can keep the poinsettia in the window full time. Your reward for this early bedtime schedule? You will have several fabulous flower buds now.

December

No more fertilizing after mid-month. Continue to water it the way you did when it was new — and enjoy as it continues to bloom throughout the season!

You can be proud that you gave your poinsettia an encore performance — and believe me when I tell you that you will enjoy your holiday plants even more knowing that you gave them such care. So, do a little dance, but remember, you're a pro now, so it's up to you to share the knowledge. Knowledge is power, so share the power — and even share this article.

Poinsettia growing not for you?

Perhaps you've read this far and are thinking "um, not so sure" — perhaps these steps are not conducive to your lifestyle, home or family. So, consider making this a project for a grandparent, a child's school project or donate the plant and a copy of the steps to a nursing home. Many adult care centers thrive on giving their residents responsibilities. (Of course, always check first before you donate an unwanted poinsettia.)  My grandmother thrived on nursing plants back to health and somehow always had a green magic thumb. I'm sure there are other wonderful people that would also love the responsibility.

More: When to take down your Christmas tree, according to tradition

And should you still decide you will resort to discarding them, more good news: note that there is no actual evidence that poinsettias are toxic or unsafe to have in the house, so consider putting them in a compost pile and letting them break down gracefully and usefully — with dignity. It may not be a waltz, but it's a fanfare of a sort. And there you have it.

Jon and Kate Gosselin are still using their kids and the media to fight with each other

Jon and Kate Gosselin still aren't done publicly fighting with each other.

More: Jon Gosselin says ex-wife Kate won't tell him where their 12-year-old son is

Their latest spat has been over their 12-year-old son, Collin, after Jon claimed that he didn't know where Collin was and that Kate wouldn't tell him.

Now, she's firing back by (what else?) giving an interview to Entertainment Tonight rather than, I don't know, talking to her ex or his lawyer or a counselor or a mediator or really anything that would end all the relentless public fighting that can only be traumatic for their kids.

During her interview, Kate would only say that Collin is "in a special school for special-needs kids with behavioral problems."

"We are both court-ordered not to speak about the care and custody of our children in detail," she added. "I've known all along where [Collin] is, but the world doesn't know, and I'll leave it at that."

More: The Jon vs. Kate Gosselin he-said-she-said battle continues

Jon's lawyer also spoke to Entertainment Tonight.

"Unfortunately, Kate has shown very little regard to the order, choosing to ignore it if it suits her," attorney Kristen Doleva-Lecher said. "Jon will strictly abide by the order unless and until it is lifted."

She continued, "My client is a loving and caring father who is acting within the scope of the law to do what is best for his kids."

As for Jon's threats to take Kate to court over putting Collin in a special school?

"I've lost track of how many times he's said that," she told Good Morning America about Jon threatening to sue her in yet another public interview about their personal family issues. "I'm really focused less on what Jon has to say. I don't really pay attention, to be honest."

I had a miscarriage on Thanksgiving, but I'm still thankful for the holiday

Seventeen years ago, I had a miscarriage on Thanksgiving. Literally, at the Thanksgiving table. I was 10 weeks pregnant. Two of my sisters were there, and lots of my in-laws. It was a houseful, and it was horrid.

Fifteen years ago, I was holding my 5-month-old firstborn baby, Grace, at the Thanksgiving table, and counting my blessings. But just two weeks later, I was in Stanford Medical Center, praying for her life after discovering that she had had a stroke and she was having seizures.

The very next Thanksgiving, after another miscarriage, I was cuddling my 6-week-old baby girl, Lea Jane.

My husband hates Thanksgiving. He feels enormous pressure to balance out the imbalance that his own family struggled with for many years. Once we started our own family, we tried to orchestrate a peace by hosting Thanksgiving. Certain traditions are so deeply rooted in his family, however, that providing the location did little to ease his stress.

More: How to survive Thanksgiving with a picky eater

The Thanksgiving memories from my childhood are all jumbled together. I know there was lots of cooking and lots of drinking. The older I got and more dysfunctional my family became, the more the drinking became the central theme.

But I don't hate Thanksgiving. I totally should. I have lots of evidence that it is rife with sadness and strife. But I just don't. I sort of like the idea of a single day devoted to eating and drinking and family. I feel good about dedicating thanks for the year about to end, and looking forward to what is to come in the next year.

Or I am a glutton for punishment? Or I am anxiously trying to right wrongs and erase memories by replacing them with new ones?

More: Healthy food swaps to consider for Thanksgiving dinner

The recent election has caused division among our families. The position and place in my life with my husband have put some restraints on familial relationships. Tolerance levels are lower. I am wary.

But my two daughters have been planning their outfits for weeks. I am looking forward to hanging with my sisters and laughing and toasting to our sisterhood. I will be vigilant around my teens and their behavior. I will stay attuned to my husband and his irritability, which will be obvious to me alone. We will all get through it just fine. Most people pull out their best behavior for these notoriously tension-filled gatherings. I am going to count on that.

This holiday is so heavy. Heavy with food. Heavy with gratitude. Heavy with football. Heavy with family. Heavy with feelings. But I have so much to be thankful for.

Decoding Drew Barrymore's moving, emotional ode to 2016

As 2016 nears its end, most of us are looking to the New Year to set a different pace: to be filled with hope, not hurt. To be better than the last. And it would seem eternally sunny Drew Barrymore is doing much of the same this holiday season.

On Sunday, the actress shared a photo of herself and her two daughters, Frankie and Olive, on Instagram — and she was clearly in her feels when she posted the sweet pic.

Drew Barrymore Insta 2

"#People I love, these are the love of my life. #myolive #myfrankie. All I wanted to do this week was reflect. Think about people and moments that make life make sense to me. That make life amazing. That motivate me to be my best self. I feel so lucky. And after just living the last few days in all things positive, it was good for me to reflect on things that truly make me happy."

Today, the actress shared another revealing glimpse into her soul, posting a sweaty pic with some workout buddies.

Drew Barrymore Insta 1

Drew Barrymore Insta 1

"#Peopleilove #sweatybetties ok this is my last post for this series. Every Monday I work out with my girlfriends and, as female writer Isaac Dennison said, 'There is nothing you can't cure with saltwater. Sweat, tears and the ocean.' May I say 2016 has been a more unique year. I have cried a lot this year. I have run to oceans. I have tried to pull it all back together by moving my body until the egg cracks, and the sweat pours out and releases something. I have always been a person who is flawed. I forgive. I fight. But I do not fight with others. I will spend my life trying to give love. And I am always aware and appreciative when I receive it. My heart is very open right now. Let us all be as good to each other as we ever have been. 2017, here we come. And yes! I will be arm and arm, with all the #peopleilove," Barrymore captioned the pic.

More: Drew Barrymore & Will Kopelman's Christmas plans show us how co-parenting is done

Obviously, Barrymore wasn't joking about her heart being very open right now. She is radiating love! But what inspired these revelations of hope and joy?

On the surface level, you could assume it's simply one of those "another year has come and gone" type of epiphanies in which you realize you are another year older and life will slip right through your fingers if you let it.

Yes, I've been having those moments lately, too. It's cliché, I know, but life really is short. And it's messy, but it's beautiful as well. If we don't take the time to soak it up for what it is now, then when?

For Barrymore, it was also a year of personal upheaval. In July, she divorced her husband of four years, Will Kopelman. Although the two continue to kick ass at co-parenting, the end of a marriage is never easy. It's almost like a death you have to grieve and, as empathetic as Barrymore is as a person, she has likely been feeling the loss for herself, for Will and for their daughters.

She openly called the divorce a failure, describing the torrential guilt and shame you feel going through one: "When you break up with somebody, you're like, 'Yeah, that didn't work,' [but] when you get divorced, you're like, 'I'm the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure.' It's so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately. It's a tough time. It's a hard thing to go through. It's like you're being put on a cheese grater and every second going, 'Ah! This wasn't the plan!'"

Suffice it to say, that's some brutal stuff.

More: Drew Barrymore deserves mad respect for calling her marriage a failure

But I believe Barrymore's moving, emotional ode to 2016 was inspired largely by other recent events that have been set into motion. In the second post, Barrymore references this being "the last post for this series." Picking up that breadcrumb and running with it, you'll find Barrymore's first #peopleilove post was shared on Nov. 17.

Drew Barrymore Insta 7

"This week makes me think about #peopleilove. I love this old prom style pic of me and my closest. We were going to the emmy's this night years back. I can't stop looking and wanting to hold onto these moments. #oldfriends," she captioned the photo of herself and her date with Nancy Juvonen and Jimmy Fallon.

But it is the post before that throwback photo that proves particularly telling. On Nov. 9, the day after the U.S. presidential election, Barrymore posted a picture of a simple sign hand-drawn in rainbow colors that reads, "I look so forward to healing." Her caption? "And loving."

A week later, her #peopleilove series began. First, it was the photo of Fallon. Next, a too-cute-for-words snapshot of Barrymore kissing little Frankie.

From there, Barrymore shared a shot of herself alongside her Charlie's Angels co-stars (and close personal friends) Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz on the red carpet, saying, "#peopleilove Right? I want to live in this forever..."

Drew Barrymore Insta 4

Next came a photo of a bunch of her best girlfriends jumping for joy on a beach. Then another photo full of empowered women — among them Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Nicole Richie.

Drew Barrymore Insta 3

The squad goals caption reads, "#peopleilove hold onto those you love and climb a mountain together. The women in my life are doers. They can be anything from life, work and physical capability. Zest if you will. I follow my friends. And when I am most in need, I hold on tighter. But it is when they need me... I know I have done something right. To earn their trust. Love your friends. Share kindness. Hold onto moments and most of all... MAKE MORE PLANS!"

More: Divorce? What divorce? Drew Barrymore's life is pure adventure

A few other photos followed suit: a group of the people she works with on the set of Santa Clarita Diet, a family photo at the dinner table for her grandma's birthday, a throwback photo of her father.

These posts, strung together, send a powerful and salient message: Barrymore believes in love. She won't let hatred calcify her heart, and she won't let someone else decide what love looks like for her. Her love is her own, and she chooses to fill her life with it — and with the people she loves. Not the ones anyone else dictates that it's OK to love, but the ones who make her heart happy.

She chooses to move forward in love, regardless of what 2017 holds. That's a pretty inspiring way to look at things, no? If we all practice Barrymore's hopeful brand of wearing our hearts on our sleeves, the world will be filled with more love, and by proxy, more people we love.

Cheers to that, Barrymore.

I didn’t baptize my kids because I want them to find their own faith

$

Religion. What a sticky subject. We all think that we know best when it comes to religion, don't we? The problems arise when we try to convince others to agree with us.

To me, faith is believing in a higher power. No matter the religion, there is a higher power at the center. Faith is believing that I was put here, on this Earth, with this family, with these friends, with this body, for a reason. Maybe I will never understand the reason. Maybe it's for several reasons. Maybe I'll learn the reason one day, and maybe I will never know.

I was never baptized or christened. But I was raised to know who God and Jesus are. I attended bible camps and women's church groups. I've read the Bible, cover to cover. My parents decided not to "force" me into any particular religion by having me baptized or christened. They decided that I should choose for myself when the time came. I am glad they did.

More: I wanted 15 kids but people already shamed me for having five

Meeting my future husband, a young man raised as Roman Catholic, I attended church with him and his family. But in the back of my mind, I wanted to raise our children the same way I was raised: to let them decide for themselves. This did not sit well with my in-laws, and many times we had to explain to them why we decided to let our children choose.

Once I asked my mother why they decided to let me choose. In not so many words, she explained that she personally felt that no single religion was "the right one." She felt that there were aspects of many religions that held merit, and many aspects of those same religions that did not.

We went out of our way to teach the boys about the Bible, and we attended church with them. We had open conversations about Jesus. And one day, Tyler asked the same questions I did. How come we hadn't had him baptized? I explained, the same way my mother did. He was not impressed with this, and vowed that as soon as he was old enough, he was choosing to be baptized as Roman Catholic. I replied, "That is your choice, but just promise me that you will explore ALL of your options before you make a final decision."

More: Sometimes there is a good reason to let your kid swear

Two summers ago, he thanked me for not having him baptized. He told me he no longer felt the way he did, and enjoyed learning about other religions. Maturity brings understanding.

I understood how my mother must have felt, because I felt proud of him for using his brain and thinking for himself, instead of choosing the first religion that came along in his short life.

More: Stop assuming it's my fault that I have a fussy baby

Nowadays, although I don't heavily rely on faith, I do turn to God from time to time. When it comes to big decisions, I take that leap of faith, and know that He will bring me to where I'm supposed to be. He has taken excellent care of me my whole life, and I know everything good in my life comes from Him.

How does faith help you in your day-to-day life?

It took hitting rock bottom to finally love myself

Four years ago, my world fell apart. And I was the instigator of the collapse. I left my husband – the father of my children – and I ended up in a very dark place.

More: My autoimmune disease didn't kill me but it took my job, friends and house

I had been unhappy in my marriage for a long time. Too long. "If I don't leave now, I'll have a breakdown," I whispered to myself the morning I handed my husband a letter explaining exactly why I was leaving him — a letter he couldn't interrupt or ignore as he had when I'd spoken the same words.

He read the letter, and I left with our 18-month-old daughter and 4-year-old son on either side of me. We had nowhere to live, so we moved in with my parents, not knowing when we would be in a position to move out.

And as one major relationship went south, another was reignited. My good old friend depression, who can always be relied upon to come back into my life whenever there's talk of a downward spiral. Of course, this particular friend is committed not to lifting my spirits, but to crushing them even further until I'm unable to function as anyone who resembles a "normal" person in any way, reduced to crying night after night for months in the spare room at my parents' house.

I was 34 years old, dealing with a very acrimonious breakup, living with my parents like an overgrown teenager and medicating myself with everything I could persuade my doctor to prescribe me and everything I could get my hands on from the liquor cabinet.

I was so racked with guilt at splitting up my family and resigning my children to years of being passed back and forth between parents who couldn't make eye contact, let alone exchange a friendly word, that I didn't fight for what I was entitled to. I just wanted everything dealt with as hastily as possible so we could all move on. Little did I know that while we might manage to tie up the financial loose ends relatively quickly, it would take three painful years for any real "moving on" to occur. But during that process, I managed to cultivate something that had always remained out of reach: self-love.

More: I thought my cerebral palsy was a disability, but it was actually a superpower

I grew up hearing the phrase "she loves herself" being used to pull a person down a peg or two or call her out for being smug and egotistical. So loving oneself was never a priority. But during those dark times when I didn't know what the future held for myself and my children, when I had no idea if I would ever be able to manage my mental illness, somehow I found small ways to give my own well-being and happiness some attention. With our lives turned upside down, we had to establish new routines, and I wasn't strong enough to take on anything too demanding. I read a lot. I spent time outdoors, walking with the kids or running on my own — rediscovering a long-lost passion for speed and distance. I gave myself the space to think about who I was, who I wanted to be and how I wanted my new life to take shape.

I realized that I wasn't a bad mother for ending my marriage. I was a good mother who wanted her children to see positive examples of relationships. I wasn't weak for walking away. I was strong for following my heart and choosing truth over financial security. My children were happy and secure and still had a great relationship with their father, and that was all down to me. But in order to continue being a good mother and to keep them happy and secure, I had to commit to making sure I was too.

Self-love isn't about thinking you're perfect or better than anyone else. It's about giving yourself compassion and understanding. It's about being your own biggest champion when times are tough. It's about believing that you're worthy of kindness, compassion, love and understanding from others. And once you've got it, it's life-changing.

NCIS' Ellie Bishop has a new love in her life & it's obviously [SPOILER]

$

0

Based on the promo for Tuesday's NCIS, things are heating up for Ellie Bishop and her personal life. Now that she is no longer with her husband Jake, she has a new man by her side. As exciting as that is, what makes her romance even more thirilling is that fans know him.

More: If you're an 'NCIS' fan, you should be watching Michael Weatherly's 'Bull'

That's right, Bishop's boyfriend is someone viewers have seen before. While chatting with TVGuide.com, Emily Wickersham opened up about her character's relationship and said, "I was surprised. But I felt like it made a lot of sense. It's someone who Bishop has had a strong friendship with for a while, so I liked that aspect to it. And ... I don't think anyone will really expect it, because it's not someone who's really been around all that much."

Wickersham divulged even more details to TVLine. So who is it? Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Reeves (Duane Henry) are the most likely candidates. As Wickersham told TVLine, Bishop's three brothers come to town and their scenes with Torres and Reeves are something to look forward to. "Their stuff with Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Reeves (Duane Henry), I cannot wait to see." If she's excited for that, then it must mean Bishop's boyfriend is probably one of the new guys, right?

More: NCIS' boss just gave us a spark of hope that Ziva is still alive

If we had to narrow it down, our money is on Reeves. Firstly, Wickersham said he spends time with her brothers, which means they obviously think their sister could be (or totally is) dating him. Secondly, she said that Bishop's boyfriend isn't "around all that much." Who hasn't been around a lot? Reeves. Henry is a series regular, so maybe this is NCIS' way of integrating him back into the storyline? Plus, Henry is listed to appear in the episode, but he is a series regular so maybe that's why he is part of the cast list.

Lastly, let's also not forget that Reeves and Bishop spent some time together in Season 14, Episode 5 ("Philly") investigating a case (photo below). There's a good chance this is where they took things to the next level.

Quinn, Reeves, Bishop
Image: CBS

If it's not Reeves, then who else could it be? Again, Torres is an option. He and Bishop have been working a lot together and maybe they've hit things off romantically. Though, it seems like Torres is trying to work through a lot of personal issues and dating doesn't seem to be a priority for him. On the other hand, in the promo teasing Bishop's boyfriend, Quinn asks Ellie if she was on date. She replies no, but Torres says yes. Is he just instigating or is he saying, "Yes, we were on a date"?

Another option could be Special Agent Tony Francis (Tony Gonzalez). He's been on a few episodes and appeared this season, though he was more interested in Quinn than Bishop. However, maybe after being shut down by Quinn he moved onto Bishop? That seems doubtful and it's totally Reeves, right?

Whoever it is, he better be worth it, because Bishop is breaking Rule #12 ("Never date a co-worker") and Gibbs may try to school her on his rules.

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.

How fix your hair when it’s as dry as a desert

$

Here are but a few constants when November rolls around: The leaves change, the bird fly south, and your hair becomes a dry, static-y mess. “The winter season with the low temperatures and humidity can dry out hair making it brittle and listless,” says dermatologist Neil Sadick. And before you thank him for stating the obvious, remember: You, too, have probably stared in the mirror at your lifeless hair, questioning how it got so ungodly dull in two weeks’ time.

More: The 7 Best Lightweight Hair Oils for Dry Hair

But there are a few things you can do. For one, swap out your shampoo and conditioner, stat: “Regardless of the hair type, extra moisturizing shampoos and conditioners can lock in hydration and ensure nurturing of the hair,” says Sadick. “Curly or thick hair is typically more demanding and prone to extra frizziness, so additional measures like hair masks and serums are beneficial to protect the hair from the root to the tip.”

And while it might seem counterintuitive to spritz your already-dry hair with dry shampoo, prolonging your showers in the winter—even by just a day or two—will do wonders for dry, damaged hair. Ahead, we found 12 masks, oils, styling products, and treatments to bring your dry hair back from the brink.

Emma Stone's Jennifer Lawrence jealousy almost stopped their friendship

Emma Stone admitted in an e-mail to Vanity Fair that she was initially jealous and freaking out of Jennifer Lawrence's rise to fame.

More: Emma Stone reveals the inappropriate nicknames she's been called at work

"She may not even know this," Stone explained, "but there was definitely a time early on when I was like 'OH HEY MY EGO IS GOING NUTS SHE’S SO GREAT AND VIBRANT AND TALENTED I’M SCREWED I’LL NEVER WORK AGAIN GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD.' Then I chilled the fuck out — and remembered we’re completely different and there is room for everyone, even if it’s an industry that doesn’t really seem to support that idea up front."

She added, "We both really do love each other and care about each other as people, beyond being actors. I support her completely when it comes to work and I feel the same from her, but I know we’d be friends even if we didn’t do the same job."

Lawrence echoed those statements in her new interview with Vanity Fair ahead of the premiere of her new movie, Passengers, "If I wasn’t her biggest fan, I would’ve Tonya Harding’d her in the kneecaps." (Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.)

More: Powerful quotes from Jennifer Lawrence's essay on Hollywood sexism

Even the start to their friendship seemed rocky. Stone initially got Lawrence's number from Woody Harrelson. Stone worked with Harrelson on Zombieland while Lawrence worked with him in The Hunger Games films, and Harrelson thought the two girls would hit it off.

Lawrence recalled the first text encounter, "She [Stone] texted me that she got my number from Woody," Lawrence said. "I replied, 'Fuck off!' And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

The girls haven't just been friends. They've been the best of friends.

In fact, Lawrence said after the initial text message exchange, they wrote one another every day for a year.

"I feel like it was our version of The Notebook — 365 texts."

The Voice's Billy Gilman made the right choice by ditching country music

Billy Gilman may get a lot of hate for appearing on The Voice despite having an impressive history in the music industry, but let's face it: Season 11 wouldn't be nearly as good without him. Having already impressed fans with his stellar voice and mesmerizing stage presence, Gilman changed his tune tonight, returning to the artist that first set him apart on The Voice: Adele.

More: Darby Walker doesn't deserve all the hate on The Voice

That's right — Gilman pulled out the stops with another amazing Adele song. This time, he stripped it down a bit with encouragement from Adam Levine. According to Gilman, Levine chose an incredibly difficult song. Adele is never an easy artist to cover, but her hit "All I Ask" is particularly challenging. Gilman rose to the occasion, however, connecting with audience in a way we've rarely seen on The Voice.

Image: NBC

The judges were clearly thrilled with Gilman's latest performance. Shelton echoed our sentiments when he asked Gilman if he's ever hit a bad note. Levine agreed, but added that there's more to Gilman than pitch-perfect melodies; he actually put something personal into his performance tonight, and that's what set him apart.

More: Billy Gilman doesn't have an unfair advantage on The Voice

During Gilman's performance, we were reminded of the huge transition he's made. Those who bash him due to his industry experience forget how hard the transition from child star to adult musician can be. Combine this with a second transition from country to pop, and it's easy to see why Gilman struggled for so long. Ultimately, however, his journey was worthwhile. His journey has inspired him to take huge risks, all in the name of staying true to himself.

Billy Gilman

A few fans are still struggling to get used to this new, pop-focused Gilman, but we are thrilled that he's made this transition. Yes, he can slay just about any style, but ultimately, his best performances occur when his passion is most evident — as is the case when he's belting out Adele. Longtime fans may struggle to accept that Gilman is no longer a country artist, but as far as we're concerned, it's the best decision he's ever made.

Kim Kardashian West isn't returning to the spotlight just yet

The Kim Kardashian West of days past might be gone for good.

The Huffington Post initially confirmed Kardashian West was planning to make her first public appearance since her Oct. 3 robbery. Kardashian West was reportedly set to attend Denise Rich's Angel Ball, which was honoring her late father, Robert Kardashian, on Monday night in New York City.

More: Just when we thought Kim Kardashian West was back, she deletes all her new FB posts

But Kardashian West was a no-show, People reported.

This was more likely due to her husband Kanye West's recent troubles rather than Kardashian West's continued anxiety from her Paris robbery, but it's still important to note that the Kardashian West we have come to know and love — the one who relishes her selfies and the spotlight — might be gone for good.

Instead, Kardashian West has made the decision to focus on her family over the past couple months, pulling back from social media and public events.

Now, after West's concert breakdown that resulted in his hospitalization for exhaustion, it seems that Kardashian West is once again pulling back from the limelight to deal with personal issues.

More: Kanye West has no problem with Kim Kardashian West avoiding the limelight

A source told People following the robbery, "The only 'positive' thing about the robbery is that Kim changed pace. Instead of working nonstop, her life has slowed down significantly. She seems happy about this. She very much likes spending every day with her kids. Many times in the past, it was very hard for her to be way from her kids for work. Now she gets to wake up with her kids and go to sleep with her kids."

But it seems like her kids are not the one's who need attention the most right now in Kardashian West's life.

The Internet is worried about West following his outburst, in which he insulted Beyoncé in a rant during his concert and then left the stage, refusing to continue his performance after only three songs.

West has since cancelled the remainder of his concerts.

Though Kardashian West skipped Denise Rich's Angel Ball, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner all attended.

More: Why Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Beyoncé skipped the AMAs

As of now, Kardashian West hasn't commented on West's condition or her decision to skip the Angel Ball.

Do you think Kanye West's concert meltdown will halt Kim Kardashian's return to the spotlight?

Animal lovers turn on Anna Faris and Chris Pratt over dog scandal

$

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt have found themselves in some trouble after a chihuahua they adopted was found homeless and malnourished on the streets.

TMZ reported the two could face up to a $5,000 fine, not for animal cruelty but because they broke their adoption agreement and didn't alert the animal shelter, Kinder4Rescue, that they had found a new home for the pup named Pete.

More: 11 times Chris Pratt and Anna Faris had the cutest family EVER

Kinder4Rescue owner Laurel Kinder said she became aware of the situation with Pete after a vet called to say that it had found the dog on the streets. The microchip implanted in him indicated Faris as the owner, but sources close to Faris and Pratt said the couple had found a "nice family home" for Pete.

Though Faris and Pratt are currently out of town, TMZ's sources said the two have heard what happened to Pete and plan to bring him home upon their return.

It's unclear as of now if the new home they found for Pete was permanent or temporary while the couple was out of town, but it sounds permanent since the contract violation stipulates that if they re-homed Pete the shelter needed to be alerted.

It's also unclear if Faris and Pratt are planning on taking Pete back into their home or if this family made an honest mistake and lost their pet.

More: ICYMI: The story behind Chris Pratt's troubled past & how he found faith

Either way, Internet users who heard about Pete's tale were unimpressed with Faris and Pratt's behavior.

Personally, I think this situation is getting blown out of proportion. If Faris and Pratt couldn't give the dog the attention it needs due to their busy filming schedules then I think they did the right thing by putting it in a good home where it could get lots of love and attention. If the dog then ran away from that home, it isn't really their fault.

I could also see myself making a similar mistake if a rescue organization had a stipulation like that in their contract. Who remembers all those details? Not me... and I'm not busy working on $100 million dollar movies.

More: Why Anna Faris, Chris Pratt are the best married couple in Hollywood

It all seems like a mistake in my opinion.

Of course, I'd never want an animal to suffer, but it sounds like that was never Faris and Pratt's intention whatsoever.

Do you think, given what we know now, that a $5,000 fine is a fair penalty?

Dancing with the Stars' Laurie Hernandez put her Olympic gymnastic skills to good use tonight during the freestyle portion of the show.

She backflipped and leaped with exciting and fun grace that landed her, once again, at the top of the leader board, poised to win that Mirrorball Trophy in the finale.

More: Thank God Dancing with the Stars has nothing to do with politics

She and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy showed off Hernandez's childlike nature in their freestyle dance with a playground number that had them jumping all over the stage with big moves and big smiles.

The two, as you can imagine, earned a perfect score from the judges, and Len Goodman called the routine, "a joyful experience to watch."

He wasn't kidding, especially when you factor in Hernandez and her jaw-dropping gymnastic stunts to start off the show. There is a reason that girl is an Olympic gold medalist.

Adele announces she’s having another baby

After playing 107 shows in 10 months, Adele finally finished her world tour last night. As the crowd screamed and confetti flew, the pop star dropped some seriously big news: “I’m going to have another baby,” she exclaimed onstage in Phoenix, Arizona.

More: Adele talking about postpartum depression could be any one of us

Though she certainly didn’t put any kind of timeline on it — it seems less like she’s already pregnant and more like she’s planning to conceive again now that she’s not on a grueling tour schedule anymore — she was definitely ready to fly straight home to Beverly Hills to do some nesting with longtime partner Simon Konecki, with whom she has a 4-year-old son, Angelo. “I’ll see you on the other side,” she told her fans.

To celebrate her tour’s conclusion, Adele posted a sweet Instagram last night featuring a banner from her son that read, “Mummy You Did It!!!” Alongside the photo, Adele wrote, “I just finished my 107 shows in 10 months. 100% live every night. I bloody smashed it, even if I do say so myself. You lot have been incredible, every night you’ve been so beautiful, loving and engaged. My band and my crew you made the whole thing turn. And my beautiful family made it easy for me to do.” For a woman who used to have paralyzing anxiety about performing for large crowds, this tour is quite a milestone.

More: Evidently Adele is too much of a ‘diva’ for Bruno Mars

According to the MirrorAdele and Konecki are planning a Christmas wedding in Los Angeles. “The plan is to marry in LA,” a source told the publication. “The wedding will be in one of the school holidays so Simon's daughter can attend.” They added, “It's looking like it will be Christmas, but they want to keep details under wraps.”

The source implied that the couple is already engaged — though “Adele is not even wearing her engagement ring,” they said — but the star has not yet confirmed these rumors. As for the wedding, “They’re a private couple and only want their nearest and dearest there,” the source said.

So — it’s very possible that a wedding and another baby are on the horizon for Adele. Time will tell! Anyone else excited?
