Genevieve Padalecki is way more than just Jared's wife & co-star

There's no doubt about it. Jared Padalecki and his wife Genevieve are pretty much the most adorable couple out there — and now that they're expecting their third baby, the cuteness is expanding.

Supernatural die-hards are already well acquainted with Genevieve, but for those who haven't watched the whole series, she's still somewhat of a mystery. Here are some things to know about her.

1. Supernatural brought her and Jared together

Genevieve became a series regular on Supernatural in Season 4 as Ruby, and quickly hit it off with Jared while on set. The rest, as they say, is history.

2. She's a classically trained actress

Genevieve holds a BA in English and a BFA degree in drama from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. She's got an extensive theater background, and has performed in regional theater productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Crimes of the Heart, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

And she didn't go through the whole "struggling actress" phase, either. Genevieve revealed in a 2013 interview that she booked a pilot pretty much right off the bat when she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an onscreen career.

3. She and Jared have matching nicknames

You've probably heard the moniker JarPad thrown around at one point or another, and Genevieve also lovingly refers to herself as GPad. Her Twitter handle is even @realGpad. So cute.

4. She makes ridiculously gorgeous babies

Not that material things are the end-all, be-all when it comes to happiness in life, but Genevieve's 4-carat cushion-cut engagement ring is impressive.

6. She's a hardcore Duck Dynasty fan

Genevieve regularly tweets in support of the Robertson family and makes it no secret she watches the show every darn week.

7. She loves the outdoors

The whole Padalecki family seems to spend as much time outside as possible, and it sure looks like Genevieve is totally at peace when she is out in nature.

8. It didn't take JarPad very long to realize that she was "the one"

Jared told fans during a 2012 panel that he was instantly drawn to Genevieve as soon as she started working on Supernatural — and by Episode 6 of Season 4, he was pretty much head over heels.

"I thought she was beautiful like that," he said snapping his fingers. "And the first scene we filmed she's in her underwear! I was like ahhhh!"

So Kanye & Kim Kardashian West might not be #RelationshipGoals, after all

$

Ever since Kim Kardashian West's life-changing robbery went down in early October, stories about how her husband, Kanye West, has been doting on her and worrying about her physical and emotional well-being have been making the rounds.

Love or hate West, it's always been so evident that his heart belongs to Kardashian West, and they always seemed to have a fairy tale-like love story. But if the latest rumors about their relationship are true, well, the whole Cinderella/Prince Charming thing might be off the table.

"Kim doesn’t want anyone to know what really goes on between her and Kanye. She’s made sure that people thinks they’re madly in love, but the truth is they fight nonstop," an inside source recently told In Touch magazine.

More: Kim Kardashian West is back on social media — sort of

"She cries that Kanye isn’t present for the kids unless it’s for a photo opportunity,” the source continues. "They also have nasty fights about money because Kanye thinks he made the Kardashians over $500 million by rebranding them into A-list icons."

Ouch. Let's be real though, maybe West's rockstar status catapulted the Kardashians to another level of celebrity, but the family wasn't exactly short on cash before West stepped into the picture.

To be fair, gossip magazine insiders aren't exactly the most trustworthy sources in the world, so the quotes about the Kardashian-Wests could be totally bogus. On the other hand, there's always been whisperings that West does everything he can to control Kardashian West's image, which isn't exactly healthy.

But the newest nuggets of information also heavily conflict with a recent Keeping Up With the Kardashians clip in which Kardashian West revealed that she's considering having another baby.

"So I’ve come to the conclusion that I just want to explore surrogacy," Kardashian West told her mom, Kris Jenner, in the short preview for the show.

Expanding the family is not exactly something you plan to do when there is trouble in paradise — so it all makes the fighting rumors seem a little fishy.

Do you think West and Kardashian West fight nonstop, or is there no truth to the gossip?

VPR's Scheana and Michael Shay deny rumors they've separated but...

Vanderpump Rules' Scheana Marie and Michael Shay's marriage has definitely not been without its ups and downs.

More: Don't freak, but Vanderpump Rules might be losing a cast member this season

And now, new rumors at the start of the show's fifth season are saying that the two are separated, and their marriage is "beyond repair," according to one source.

"Mike found out some things about Scheana on Wednesday, and was furious," the insider told Radar Online. "Now that things have started to click for him, there’s been some jealousy."

While Scheana and Shay seemed to have the most stable relationship on the show by miles leading up to their fairy tale wedding on Lisa Vanderpump's Villa Rosa estate, Season 4 revealed that there were issues that both of them hid from the show — and their friends.

More: VPR's Jax Taylor teases that he & Bethenny Frankel 'kissed a little bit' — what?

In the early episodes of Season 4, Scheana revealed that Shay had battled an addiction to painkillers that he was buying illegally. At one point, he disappeared to his parents' home and didn't speak to his wife for about a week. Scheana and the rest of the Vanderpump Rules cast held a sort of intervention when he returned home, where he revealed that he was so intimidated by Scheana, he struggled to stand up for himself and his needs in their marriage.

During that season, Shay also struggled with a drinking problem before he and Scheana started couples therapy.

New rumors say that Shay once again disappeared, but this time, he took money from his and Scheana's joint account and went on a drug bender. He posted to Instagram this week to deny those rumors.

Michael Shay denies rumors that he's missing & on drugs

Michael Shay denies rumors that he's missing & on drugs

"I am not missing. I am sober. I am Happy!!!" he wrote. "Don't believe everything you read. I love my wife and will always love my wife. Whatever is going on between us will stay between us! I love my family and my family loves me and a lot of things have been said out [sic] is protection and anger by many people. I [sic] just ready for the next chapter in my life!"

We can't help but wonder if there's some degree of truth to the rumors that Scheana and Shay are struggling in their marriage considering the low points they've been through onscreen. But we're still pulling for them, and from what they're saying, they're definitely working on it.

35 years later, GH fans learn Luke and Laura’s wedding almost didn’t happen

Next week, General Hospital will celebrate the 35-year milestone of one of the biggest moments in daytime history — Luke and Laura’s wedding. In 2016, it’s hard to imagine that 30 million people tuned in to watch the soap supercouple get married, but that’s exactly what happened.

More: A return to GH isn't totally out of the question for Kimberly McCullough

As the big anniversary approaches, new stories are beginning to emerge about the event and how it almost didn’t happen because Genie Francis was looking for different opportunities. In an article for Closer Weekly magazine, the cast reveals some of the secrets fans never knew.

Luke and Laura wedding

Luke and Laura wedding

Many longtime GH viewers know that the wedding was entirely the idea of superfan Elizabeth Taylor. The producers wanted to give her the role of villain Helena Cassadine, but she had specific stipulations for her appearance.

More: General Hospital's Genie Francis dishes on Laura's future romance

“Elizabeth said, ‘I won’t come on the show unless there’s a wedding,’” said Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) to the magazine.

Taylor got exactly what she wanted, but there were a few tricky things to work out — the return of Kin Shriner (Scotty Baldwin) and the pending exit of Francis.

Shriner, who played Laura’s ex-husband on GH, had departed for a year-long contract with the soap, Texas. ABC waited for his contract to expire on the NBC show to get him back just in time for the Nov. 16 and 17, 1981 wedding to stir up trouble.

More: General Hospital's Genie Francis discusses depression prior to weight loss

The real shocking news, though, is that Francis had an offer to go to a CBS show, and she almost took them up on their lucrative deal. According to Rogers, she was within weeks of leaving GH when the Taylor-requested wedding idea came up.

“So, suddenly everything shifted,” he laughed. “When you’ve got Elizabeth Taylor, you make adjustments!”

It’s incredible to think that one of the biggest moments in television history almost didn’t happen because one of the actors was leaving the show. Leave it to Liz Taylor to change a major moment in time.

Of course, it was Taylor's Helena Cassadine who put a curse on the couple, so they didn’t have that ultimate fairy tale ending. However, the moment still burns bright in soap opera history.

Survivor's Michelle Schubert explains why she was her own executioner

Michelle Schubert was a force to be reckoned with, which is why she was an easy person to target on Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X. She had her finger on the pulse of the game, but suddenly found herself on the bad side of the vote after letting her guard down. During our one-on-one interview with Schubert, she explains what went wrong and reveals who she believes is the strongest contender to win the game. Schubert also dishes on the fast path she took to get on the show.

SheKnows: You were clearly blindsided as the votes started falling against you. What was going through your mind at that moment?

Michelle Schubert: The merge happened, and I immediately was playing the game. I found some rifts in the Gen-Xers. I was starting to rally some votes against Chris, but wasn't pulling the trigger on it yet. You don't want to do that too soon. You do that when you need to after losing an Immunity Challenge. I had started to rally some things, build some trust and make some alliances. Then, my closest alliances, Jay and Will, pulled me aside and said, "You need to lie low. Trust us. You need to lie low because Michaela was telling Bret and Sunday that you control the game and you're a strategic threat. You just need to stop for now. Just prove them wrong this first vote and everything will be fine. It will take the target off your back." I did. In my brain, it seemed logical. My gut said, 'Don't do it.' What that actually ended up doing was isolating me from everyone. This is a game. If you're not strategizing with me, you're strategizing with someone else. When my name came up, I think people thought a few things. They were pretty dang sure I didn't have an Immunity Idol and I wasn't really talking to people lately. I think those were the determining factors. I did have a lot of clues during the day. People were talking to me less and less. At Tribal Council, I actually started to get inklings. I almost asked Jay for his Idol at Tribal Council. You have to be pretty sure to do that, and I wasn't that sure because I didn't want to out him as having an Idol for no reason. I wasn't sure I would be able to convince him it was necessary. I think he would've done it, absolutely, had he known the imminence of my death in the game. I don't know if I could've convinced him because it was such a gut feeling based on reading between the lines of people talking at Tribal Council.

Michelle Schubert voted off Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X

SK: So the clues you received throughout the day weren't enough of a gut feeling to trump your alliance logic. Is that a fair assumption?

MS: Correct. At this point in the game, I was very sleep-deprived. I would love to just blame that. I couldn't even do basic math. I remember trying to add single digits that day on the beach while trying to add up votes. I couldn't do it. Those aren't big numbers. There was only 13 people out there. It's not surprising to me that my decision-making was also suffering. You also want to trust your alliance and listen to what they say. This was the only vote that I didn't control the relational aspect of. I wasn't the one looking people in the eye while we were strategizing. I wasn't the one feeling out the situation of it was really going to go how we want it. I didn't have any part in that at all. I just sat back and kept to my alliance. Just tell me who to vote for.

Will Wahl, Michelle Schubert and Jay Starrett on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: Was this really the first time you took a step back to let the game play around you?

MS: It was. That was my fatal mistake. That is the one thing I would do differently. There's so many things you could say. What if we didn't vote off Mari? Would there be less people against you? Would that make a smaller target? At the end of the day, none of those things, like Figgy going home, none of those things were the death sentence. I was my own executioner there. I made a terrible misjudgment and decided to sit back for one vote. I shouldn't have done that. I should have been able to swing my way through any situation, especially this one.

More: Survivor's Figgy & Taylor didn't just break up — they're not even speaking

Michelle Schubert carries her torch on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: Being somebody who was a strategic player, how badly does it sting for you to think somebody like Taylor is still alive in the competition when he doesn't even seem to care?

MS: [Laughs.] Oh, man. I mean, that's kind of how the game goes with a lot of these votes. Wasn't Mari more of a gamer? Nowadays, the threats don't make it to the end. Of course there's exceptions to everything, but a lot of times the biggest threats, biggest strategy players, are the ones getting sent home. It's not painful to see that. In fact, I love Taylor. I'm glad he's still in the game.

More: Why it's time for Taylor Stocker to be voted off Survivor

Michelle Schubert competes in Immunity challenge on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: But does he deserve to win?

MS: [Laughs.] That is a different question. That is a different question right there. Everybody has a slightly different rubric of how they're grading the other players. My rubric: I want to see strategy play. I want to see what did you manipulate in the game. How did you pull votes together and switch votes around? How did you use the relationships you made to your own advantage? I didn't see Taylor doing that. In my rubric, I don't think I would vote for Taylor in the end depending on who he's sitting next to. Unless it was a vote for just who do I like and want to hang out with, but of course that's different.

Michelle Schubert competes in puzzle challenge on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: At this point, which player do you see meeting your rubric? Who do you believe is the best castaway left in the game?

MS: I would say Jay. I got to see how good of a liar Jay was pre-swap and post-merge. I also got to hear about the move he pulled against Michaela. He was an interesting player. He was good at challenges. He was good at survival. He was the one catching crabs by hand. He had a lot of things going for him. Plus, he was strategic. He was pulling things together and pulling people together that you wouldn't expect. I think he's a huge threat.

Michelle Schubert with Jay Starrett on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: What was your end-game plan? Who did you want sitting next to you at the final Tribal Council?

MS: This might surprise you, but I didn't really care. I was confident enough in my game that I was willing to go with just about anyone. My game play consisted of who would not vote against me. I'm going to keep them by me and get rid of the rest. I feel like it would've ended up with something like me, Jay and maybe Taylor. I don't know. It didn't have to go that way. I didn't have all my eggs in one basket by any means. Actually, at final five or so, I probably would've started looking to see if I could beat Jay. I think that would've come into play later, but at this point, I wanted just to keep my closest people close.

Michelle Schubert on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: How did you get picked to be on the show?

MS: A co-worker turned to me a little over a year ago and said, "Michelle, have you ever thought about being on Survivor? I think you should apply." He connected me with some of the right people. Within a week or so, I got calls from the directors. It was kind of history from there. Simply, I think it had a lot to do with my Facebook presence and maybe the wow-factor from my social media presence.

Michelle Schubert makes the merge on Survivor: Millennials Vs. Gen-X
Image: CBS

SK: Were you a fan of the show before becoming a castaway?

MS: Yes, but totally different than a lot of other people. I had not watched TV in about 10 years or more. I'm not really a movie person, either. I just wasn't somebody that watches stuff. I listen to things. I listen to podcasts. I read books. My brother is a huge Survivor fan. He and his wife would come over and say, "Michelle, you've got to watch this episode." So, I had seen it. Once I applied, I ended up watching 16 seasons start to finish; just binge-watching and loving it. I loved every aspect of it. The challenges are fun. The idea is cool. You're out there to make friends, but you can't win by being best friends or worst enemies with anyone. It had this weird, very unique dichotomy to the game play. I think that's what drew me to it. That's why I liked it a lot.

Hosting Thanksgiving when you have little kids? No problem

$

You've got your menu decided, your grocery list written out and you even think you'll have enough chairs for everyone to squeeze in at the table. You're officially ready to host Thanksgiving this year. There's just one — or two or three — small problems... how to pull off making the meal of the year when you've got little kids to take care of at the same time. Don't panic, and don't reach for the pizza delivery menu just yet either. Hosting Thanksgiving while parenting is completely doable. It just takes a little planning and a few extra supplies. Here's everything you need to survive hosting Thanksgiving when you've got little kids.

More: 30 kids Thanksgiving crafts that will brighten up your holiday table

1. Snacks

Obvious, right. I know you're pointing to the adorable turkey-shaped crudités and delicious deviled eggs on your menu right now as if to say, "Got it covered." But hear me out. Unless you're blessed with adventurous eaters, most little kids won't be willing to try your fun, festive appetizers when their stomachs start rumbling. And the last thing you want to do when your hands are covered in turkey giblets is stop to make a PB&J. Since a fed child is a better-behaved one and you don't want any meltdowns in front of your in-laws, consider making sandwiches the night before so you can pass them out when hunger strikes. And include some familiar, kid-friendly snacks in the mix, like fish-shaped crackers or fruit.

2. Plasticware and paper plates

Your grandmother's china is beautiful, which is why the children need to stay far, far away from it. Grab some plastic cutlery, disposable napkins and paper plates while you're out getting the Thanksgiving groceries so you don't have to worry every time an elbow goes flying. If the kids are getting their own special table, you can give them the all-important job of setting it themselves, keeping them distracted for another five minutes.

3. Spare pots and pans

At some point, the kids are probably going to want to "help," which is code for get underfoot while you're moving hot things and opening the oven. Keep them busy and away from the stove by letting them stir a clean dishtowel in a spare pot with a wooden spoon. If they're feeling the need to burn off some energy, let them flip over the pot and practice their drumming. Added bonus? The noise will drown out the political argument your husband and brothers are having in the next room.

4. A backup set of eyes

Yes, moms have eyes in the back of their head, but no one can be expected to pull of an amazing meal and watch the kids every single second. Enlist the help of that older cousin who loves to babysit or the fun uncle to make sure no one wanders off so you can focus on reading the directions for the gravy closely. Look: cornstarch, not corn syrup! That was a close one.

More: 12 books perfect for teaching your kids about Thanksgiving

5. Crayons and drawing paper for the dining room table

Of course you'll have games and toys for the kids to play with while the meal is cooking, but consider that they might need something to keep them entertained during Thanksgiving dinner too. Crayons and paper or a quiet activity book for them to play with will help keep them from getting antsy after they're done eating but the adults are all going back for second helpings.

6. Flame-free centerpieces

Don't let Pinterest hypnotize you into creating elaborate table centerpieces. Flickering candles can add a warm glow to your meal, but they're also dangerous to little hands and bodies. The same goes for anything breakable or small enough to swallow. Stick to plastic or fabric, or go for a nature-lover theme with edible centerpieces made of fruits and nuts. This way, if your kids reach for the middle of the table, you don't have to pause mid-chew to yell at them.

7. Spare clothes

Those special Thanksgiving Day outfits you bought are adorable. Make sure you get some family photos with the grands before you sit down to eat, or consider popping the kids into a backup set of play clothes before the meal so you don't wind up crying over spilled juice on crushed velvet.

8. Paper towels, baby wipes and stain remover

Speaking of meal mishaps, when little kids are around cranberry sauce, there's bound to be at least one accident. Having cleanup supplies on hand makes it more likely that you'll be able to use this tablecloth again next year.

9. Easy Mac

Because no matter how delicious the Thanksgiving meal is, there's always one child who refuses to eat it.

10. Your phone

The day will be a blur of measuring, mixing and telling your younger daughter to stop chasing her brother around the dining room table. But it is, after all, a special occasion. Keep your phone on hand or pass it along to a family member who's handy with a camera to capture those fleeting moments that make the holidays special.

11. Wine

You successfully pulled off a feast for the family and managed to keep the kids alive at the same time. Cheers to that!

Discovering my mom's opioid addiction made our relationship stronger

I have always been a bad daughter. I never encouraged conversations from my mother as I was always hard pressed for time. Be it boyfriend issues or ambitions, I hardly expressed my love and affection for my mother while being tangled in a self-inflicted mess. But things changed since last week when I was meandering through her bookshelf while looking for a work-related document. I stumbled upon a diary which was old, charred and even torn at places. It easily looked like a 30 year-old piece — probably more.

More: Splitting with my mother and husband gave me the freedom to live authentically

I was curious and I knew it belonged to my mom. As I didn’t have the time to start a conversation on my own, reading the diary was the only way to know her well. I knew it wasn’t right to read someone’s diary without his or her knowledge but again— she was my mom. What could I possibly not know about her? So I took the diary to the office and started flipping through the pages in leisure.

Most pages were blank except the one dated February 30,1972. It had my mom’s handwriting and after 100 pages of emptiness, I finally got something to read.

The page had the following words— every single one belonged to her:

“Yet another day passes by and I still have the demon following me. Three years back I tried heroin for the first time and have been addicted since. I am ashamed to face my family, John and the soul that lives inside me. My first child.”

I was only three lines into the diary and had tears in my eyes. I was angry, moved, sad and even curious enough to read on. I never knew my mom was an addict but I wouldn’t have made assumptions before finishing off with the page. So I continued reading.

“That little blot of powder was relieving to begin with but soon got the better of me. While I felt more connected to myself at first, things went ugly after three months. Now it has been 36 months and I am still trying to face the ones close to me. I haven’t confided to anyone but myself. I guess the time is right for my parents to know.”

I started visualizing her fight with heroin and how frustrated and helpless she would have felt. I am not ashamed to say that I was into smoking for two months after my first breakup and it took me two more years to say this to my dad. My mom tolerated the anguish for more than three years – I can’t imagine how much she must have felt!

I kept reading.

“I don’t want my child to feel that I was an addict. I was never into drugs and it all started with my medication for the neck surgery. I took a drug but never abused the prescribed medication. However, I had to stop midway due to the lack of a medical insurance. I wasn’t well off so had to make a shift to the largely abused Percocet.

The moment I felt good taking it, I realized addiction has crept in. While I kept purchasing Percocet off-street, heroin came in as a way cheaper option with better availability. It went for three years and now I cry and feel worthless about myself. A week ago I went to the hospital and got myself checked. Doctors told me that I am pregnant and now it becomes all the more important to combat this addiction for the opioids. I now have a reason to live as I want my baby to live.”

By now I was in tears and could feel her pain. I never acknowledged her efforts but now I know what she did for me. She tried taking down a tormenter for a child whom she could have aborted. She didn’t kill me. She raised me into a responsible, young woman.

But did she get out of the rut? Now I was excited as I continued reading.

“I told my parents that I am addicted. They kind of disowned me. John took me in and we went to the doctor together. He reacted when I broke the news to him but didn’t leave my side. I took prescription drugs but didn’t detox as the physicians were weary of a relapse. While some predicted a miscarriage, most doctors believed that it will be impossible to save the child.”

It was 1972 and medical science wasn’t as evolved as it is in 2016. I understand what my mom must have gone through on hearing about the presumed miscarriage.

There was a deafening cry emanating out of the page which I was reading. I just finished with that page and flipped. I couldn’t find anything else. I was eager and wanted to know more. It came down to December 1st when I could find anything more written by my mom.

“I had a healthy delivery. John is ecstatic and my father finally paid me a visit. I am already home but slightly worried about the expected side effects which my baby might show up with. I keep my fingers crossed and continue praying to God. I love her and John the most. Hope she loves me back— for the rest of my life.”

I was broken. I failed her. In the last line she wanted me to love her throughout her life but I disappointed her. In the past 34 years, we hardly had a proper conversation.

I realized this and took the day off. Upon reaching home, I secretly placed the diary back on her shelf and prepared dinner for both of us. She came home tired and was ecstatic to see me this early. I didn’t waste any time and ran up to her, hugged her and cried on her shoulders. She was worried and asked whether I was OK or not. I just told her, “I will always love you mom, for the rest of my life.”

She didn’t say anything but understood. She had tears in her eyes— tears of joy, triumph and fulfillment.

What Netflix's The Crown gets right — and where they went rogue

Netflix's newest series The Crown is a lush inside look at the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and those closest to her, but how true are the scenes we're watching? Here are a few details that caught our eye, and a breakdown of how accurate they really are.

Churchill's baths

Churchill's bath

Churchill's bath

In one funny scene that would cause a massive sexual harassment lawsuit if it happened today, Prime Minister Winston Churchill demands his secretary read his mail to him while he is in the bath. This was not artistic license for effect. Writers for the show say they discovered the exact anecdote in a documentary about the famed leader.

King George VI's operation

In a scene that made many a modern viewer shudder with thoughts of supergerms, King George undergoes an operation to remove a lung, not at a hospital, but in a state room at Buckingham Palace — complete with giant crystal chandeliers. This was not dramatic license. The king really did have this major surgery at the palace (although if they truly wrapped the offending organ in newspaper like a smoked fish is another story). The only part of the scene that did not quite happen is the part when the family gathered together at the palace awaiting news. In reality, Elizabeth and Philip remained at Clarence House, Queen Mary at Marlborough House and Charles and Anne at Balmoral.

The name game

Queen Elizabeth wife

Queen Elizabeth wife

Was the family's royal house name really such a big deal? In the series, Philip is depicted as angry and emasculated because Elizabeth was talked into retaining the House of Windsor instead of his family name, Mountbatten (which was actually a brand-new name upon being granted British citizenship, replacing his much more German one). In real life, people close to the couple, including the prime minister, have said it was a source of major marital discord. "I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his children. I'm nothing but a bloody amoeba," Philip is said to have complained to friends. In fact, it bothered him so much that a full eight years later, when she was pregnant with Prince Andrew, Elizabeth again raised the issue with her advisors. Eventually, it was decided that the royals would retain the name Windsor, but any descendants not carrying the title "royal highness" would carry the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

Margaret's broken heart

Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend

Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend

After years of waiting, Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend, a divorced father of two, finally come to the realization that their love is not to be. In the movie, Townsend makes the announcement that the couple will not wed, but in real life, it was Margaret who broke the news to the world — albeit with a statement written for her by Townsend himself.

"I would like it to be known that I have decided not to marry Group Capt. Peter Townsend," the statement said. "Mindful of the Church's teaching that Christian marriage is indissoluble, and conscious of my duty to the Commonwealth, I have resolved to put these considerations before any others."

"I have reached this decision entirely alone, and in doing so I have been strengthened by the unfailing support and devotion of Group Captain Townsend. I am deeply grateful for the concern of all those who have constantly prayed for my happiness."

Prince Philip's heritage

Snobbishly dismissed by Queen Mary as being from a "family of parvenues and carpetbaggers," the Duke's background is in reality not very far removed from the Windsors themselves. Several characters comment on the fact that Philip is a prince without a country, his family having been exiled from Greece, but his royal blood is as blue as Elizabeth's. Both his mother and grandmother were born in Windsor Castle, and his great-great-grandmother is Queen Victoria — as is Elizabeth's. In addition, Christian IX of Denmark is Elizabeth's great-great-grandfather and Philip's great grandfather.

Dear daughter: I won't sugarcoat a Trump presidency for you

Dear Daughter,

I'm sorry that this country has let you down and failed to elect a female president in any of it's 56 elections. We finally had a woman on the ballot this year and it seemed as though she might have won it. She was flawed, but she was qualified and level-headed and a very good choice if you share her beliefs. I wish I could tell you that she was not elected because there was another candidate who was better qualified and will do just fine at leading our country because he is a good man with good morals. There are so many other Republican politicians we could have said that about. But America didn't choose to put any of them on their ballot. I wish I could tell you that Mr. Trump won because he also has good ideas and that they are based on good values. Many people in America questioned Secretary Clinton's character because as a public servant for thirty years she sometimes failed, and those failures were public and difficult. I wish I could tell you that the playing field was fair and that Mr. Trump was judged equally for his failures.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

More: Women and minorities made history in the U.S. Senate last night

Instead, what I have to somehow try to explain to you is that America picked Mr. Trump despite the fact that he has displayed immoral, racist, misogynistic behavior publicly and without any apologies. I wish I could tell you that perhaps his behavior was misinterpreted or that these were youthful indiscretions or that he had temporary insanity, and so we can forgive him and keep an open mind and move forward as we have been asked to do. But, none of those things are true. There is no way to misinterpret the things that he said on that bus. Please know that although many men and women have said that those filthy and illegal things he spoke of on that bus were "locker room" talk, it does not mean that your daddy speaks like that. Ever. Those words Mr. Trump spoke are not OK, and they should never be brushed aside as something men brag about when women aren't around. Not all men talk like that and not all men think it is OK to talk like that. I promise your daddy is better than that.

You're going to hear a lot of people saying things like, "Put our differences aside" and "Come together and support the new president." Every other year, every other candidate, I have agreed with this. This year I won't (and I won't ask you to) support a person of such low character and with no moral code. I can't look you or your brother in the eye and say, "We will support him even if we don't agree with him."

More: Megyn Kelly's wisdom on how we move on from the election is right on

I cannot ask you to look the other way for someone who has bragged about assaulting women or made fun of handicapped people. I can't tell you I will support someone who believes in banning people from entering the country based on their religion, because I know you haven't forgotten that religious freedom was the reason this country was started. I won't ask you to support any of those things because none of them are about politics. They are about morals and strength of character, and there is no difference of opinion when it comes to those two things. You either are or are not a moral person, and you either do or do not have character. These are the issues where there is no gray area. There's no seeing the other person's point. If you are going to brag about assaulting another human, make fun of a handicapped person, or judge someone based on their religion, then you are not a good person. Period.

Which brings me to the hardest part of this letter. How to deal with the people we know and love who have voted for Donald Trump (along with millions of other Americans). I want to tell you why so many people have ignored the horrible things this man has done. Many of them will say that they disliked Hillary so much that they felt they had no other choice. But that's not true. There were as many as ten Republican candidates vying to be on the ballot this year, but Trump beat them all.

More: How I explained President-elect Donald Trump to my daughter

Many will say they were looking for change. I heard an interesting opinion from an immigrant this morning who, at first glance, was the last person in the world I thought would be a Trump supporter. He said he thinks people voted for Trump because he held out promises to people. He would say things like, "It's going to be so great, you won't believe it. You'll see" and "I know Isis better than the generals, believe me." Those words are enticing, but they don't actually mean anything or have any basis in reality. But, maybe it was those glorious promises that got so many people to vote for Mr. Trump. Because it can't be that there are millions of people in this country who agree with his morals. Please don't let it be that.

So dear daughter, I want to close by saying that sometimes in life the wrong person wins. Sometimes in life you will question the moral fabric of your country. My advice to you is don't get your news from Facebook. Listen to NPR or watch the BBC news and when you are a little older watch John Oliver and know the actual facts about the things that are going on in the world around you, and then make choices based on facts. That's how you make good decisions. Look at what is real and then look into your heart and decide what is right. Because I'd rather you be questioning the moral fabric of the country than questioning your own.

Love,

Your Mother

How to cook Thanksgiving dinner for just the two of you

Just the two of you this Thanksgiving? I've been there. Turns out, one of the big disadvantages of moving 3,000 miles away from your friends and family for a job that might actually get busier on holidays can really cramp your holiday style. Or maybe you're a single mom with one child going it alone for the first time.

Either way, it doesn't mean you have to skip the holiday to avoid all those leftovers or hit up the local Luby's. You can absolutely have Thanksgiving with your cherished fixin's with just a little planning and these tips straight from someone who's done it before.

1. Have a game plan

First, you have to come to terms with the fact that two people can only eat so much food. Having leftovers for one day is great, but they get old by day three or four. So decide whether you're going with fewer sides or with smaller-portioned versions of more dishes.

Now, sit down with your other half and make a list. Items you can't live without go in one column and items you want but could live without go in the other. Discuss, argue, makeup, compromise and get that menu set. Remember, each of you may have your own family traditions, so the compromise step is key.

2. Consider compromise dishes

Try variations on your faves that work better for two people. For example, marshmallow-stuffed Hasselback sweet potatoes are a great alternative to a whole dish of sweet potato casserole. If you make only one to share, you can plan for more sides.

Hit the internet and search for "[name of your recipe] for two." Even if you're committed to your own recipe, it could give you an idea for how to tweak it.

More: Not feeling the turkey for Thanksgiving? You've got some amazing options

3. Prepare your recipes

Collect your recipes well in advance. If your MIL's stuffing is on your guy's list, make sure you reach out to her well in advance to get it, plus any tips she may have.

If you're cutting recipes, there are apps and online tools to help you with proportions. Check out Fruit from Washington's recipe calculator, My Kitchen Calculator and Google Calculator. Things like stuffing, sweet potato casserole or candied yams, mashed potatoes, veggie sides, mac and cheese and even broccoli-cheese casserole are easier than you might think to cut significantly.

4. Gear up

Cooking for two may require smaller dishes if you're cutting recipes, so make a list of supplies you'll need for each recipe. Go online, to IKEA or to your local restaurant supply store to stock up on baking ramekins, small bowls and even smaller pots and pans if you need them.

Give yourself extra time for grocery shopping. If you're living in a different region of the country than in years past, you may have a harder time tracking down specialty ingredients for family recipes.

5. Get bird-brained

Obviously, a 15-pound gobbler is way too much food for two. Even if you want leftovers, every pound of bone-in turkey is a serving for one person. But you have options.

  • Buy and roast just the breasts or just the legs
  • Go with chicken — a whole chicken is a good size for two, even if you want leftovers
  • Try Cornish game hens, duck or pheasant — they're a tad pricey, but you're only cooking for two, so live a little
  • Consider non-poultry options (Thanksgiving is more about the sides anyway, right? Or is that just a Southern thing?)

6. Make dessert easier

Look for a dessert that's easy to assemble for just two, like Mason jar desserts. Another option is to coordinate baking with a friend: Both of you makes a different dessert and you exchange half of each.

If pies are your game, there's also a pie pan that allows you to make split pies (Amazon, $11) — because this is America and of course someone already thought of that because we've been arguing over which pie to make since 1621.

More: How to cook a real Thanksgiving dinner in your tiny little kitchen

7. Make a plan for the leftovers

Leftover poultry can be used to make soups, enchiladas and more or even shredded or chopped and smothered in barbecue sauce for a sandwich or chopped baker. Leftover rolls can be frozen and reheated later or even eaten for breakfast with leftover cranberry sauce instead of jelly. Got half or three-quarters of a can of leftover mushroom soup? Cut another casserole that uses it to that size and make it later in the week. Leftover deviled eggs can be chopped up, mixed and used for egg salad sandwiches. Get creative and it won't feel like you're eating leftovers.

Insider claims to know everything about Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton's wedding

Things are escalating quickly for Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's wedding planner.

Both Stefani and Shelton always seem to get tongue-tied when they're asked specific questions about their relationship — but that hasn't stopped engagement and wedding rumors from running wild. Fans and media outlets have been speculating about a Stefani/Shelton wedding for months now, and no one would be surprised if the two had tied the knot by the end of the year.

Now, the gossip mill reports that — not only have Stefani and Shelton set a date — but the guest list is already set at a meager 400 people, and Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Courteney Cox and fiancé Johnny McDaid, Katy Perry, Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, Luke Bryan and Brett Eldredge are all invited to attend, according to a Radar Online source.

More: Gwen Stefani sees you 'shipping her & Blake Shelton, and she loves it

That's not all — insiders say Stefani and Shelton are even pondering adding their famous ex-spouses to the extensive guest list.

Image: Giphy

"They’re seriously considering inviting Gwen’s cheating ex, Gavin Rossdale, and Blake’s former wife, Miranda Lambert," the source said, adding, "They’re making sure to invite them with a plus one. Won’t that be interesting?"

Um, yeah.

400 guests is a far cry from a the low-key backyard wedding sources claimed Stefani and Shelton were planning back in September, and if the gossip is true, the explosion in guest list size is all Stefani.

"They can hardly agree on anything!" the source said. "Gwen wants to go big on this — and Blake wanted to make it an informal affair down home in Tennessee or their new place in Oklahoma, but he’s not willing to go to the mat against her... Gwen’s guest list was 700 people alone. She also wanted to have a bunch of celebrity music stars perform — but he didn’t want to turn the wedding into Woodstock."

From the sound of things, Stefani may be well aware of the consequences for wanting a much bigger wedding than her betrothed.

"Gwen knows Blake’s out of his depth here with all this glam, so she’s agreed to foot the bill for the wedding while he will pick up the tab for the honeymoon!" the Radar source claims.

One thing they will be saving money on? A DJ. The inside source says Stefani and Shelton have agreed to perform at the event themselves, and will for sure be singing Jon Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" at the festivities.

I'm afraid for my kids after the election, but I will still teach them love

$

Trump’s win has devastated pretty much everyone I know on both sides of the political spectrum. From my children who wanted their ‘teammate’ Hillary to win, to friends, colleagues, and neighbors. This ‘victory’ doesn’t sit right with us. And it’s not because our person didn’t win.

We’ve all dealt with being on the losing team before. This defeat is different. We’re talking about someone who built his campaign on threats, insults, lies, and fear. His campaign was grounded in hatred, bigotry, misogyny, ignorance, and intolerance. All the things we tell ourselves and our children they cannot and should not espouse. And yet he is now set to become leader of the free world. It’s just too much to take in.(To anyone who’s trying to understand what that feeling of unease, degradation, and hurt is, it’s how the rest of us feel when we’re attacked because of our race or religion. You know it’s completely wrong and false but it still feels shameful and painful.).

So what do we do now? What comes next? What do we tell our kids? First, hug your loved ones. I held my children a little closer this morning and checked in with my friends and family. I looked around at how my community was reeling from this latest setback and I grieved, and continue to grieve, with them. But soon we need to come out of this fog because, like it or not, we must learn to live in a world where Trump is going to be president.

I am tired of trying to explain to anyone why this is a terrifying moment. I am tired of explaining why this is not business as usual where we just press on. I am tired of trying to make others understand how unsettling this is. If you don’t understand now, in this moment, you won’t understand anytime soon.

So in my mind the absolute best thing to do today, tomorrow, and in anticipation of 2020 is to recommit to love and kindness. Practice it each and every day. Ingrain love and kindness in all you do, at home, with friends, with strangers, at work. Each and every day. If you have kids, teach them love and kindness in word and deed. Muslim, black, Latina, female, LGBTQ, immigrant, poor, middle class, birth control user, none of the aforementioned, whatever. Love and kindness matters.

More: Parents share how they told their kids about President Trump

Love is not an easy concept to embrace. Love requires us to set aside our prejudices (many of which have been held over lifetimes and generations) and face our fears of others without a tangible safety net. And it can be exhausting. For the most part, we are conditioned to mistrust and judge those we see as different to ourselves. But engaging in that behavior has led us to this moment now. It has led us to a moment where Trump has been voted in as president on a platform of hatred. Love and kindness are not partisan issues – they are human ones.

So today, along with your children, friends, family members, and communities, let’s make a bold political statement of focusing on kindness and love. I am saddened that I live in a world where kindness is a political statement, but fine. I’ll take this as an opportunity to rededicate myself to this mission. I will teach it to my children through my actions, my words, and how I live my life. I will prove to them, and Trump, that his hatefulness will not darken the light of love. His assaults will not make me lash out at others, even if they’re different to me. His ignorance will not stop me from teaching my own children and learning new things with them.

More: Women and minorities made history in the U.S. Senate last night

I will remember this bold political statement as I cry and think about how my boys may be treated as second class citizens simply because they’re Muslim.

I will remember love and kindness as I think about the immigrant families that are afraid they will be deported, separated, or worse.

I will remember this as I think of same-sex couples just wanting to live their lives like everyone else.

I will remember this as I think of the millions and millions of women who just want to be able to access life-saving health services and make decisions for their own bodies.

I will remember this as I think about how Black Lives Matter was labeled ‘trouble.’

I will remember this as I think of every single woman who is essentially being told that a man can treat her as an object to be grabbed, touched, and degraded at a man’s will.

It’s bewildering to think of what a Trump presidency may look like and depressing and downright terrifying to relive the hateful rhetoric that led to his successful election as president. But I believe love and kindness are our first defense against this ever happening again. I believe love and kindness can carry us through these first few overwhelming and crushing days, weeks, and months as we begin to process what happens next.

More: Parents share how they told their kids about President Trump

At this point, I feel it’s impossible to prepare against his policies because no one really knows what those are (Trump included). So while we wait for this to shake out, I will continue to tell my children that bullying, intimidation, hatred, ignorance, and fear will not win. Trump and his supporters may attack my religion, my ethnic background, my gender, and many of the people I love, but they will not win.

Love and kindness 2020. Watch us come back stronger.

7 foundations that won’t settle into fine lines

There are few things more frustrating than spending a chunk of your morning methodically applying your foundation, only to find that it’s slipped down your face and into your previously invisible fine lines by noon (or, worse, as soon as you apply it). But it’s not your fault, and no, you didn’t just develop 40 new wrinkles overnight. More often than not, it’s because your foundation is simply too thick or too drying for your skin, making every tiny line on your face look a billion times more apparent than they really are.

B.J. Novak can date Ceilidh Garten but she'll never be his #SoupSnake

Normally it doesn't effect us too much when we hear of a new celebrity couple, but news that B.J. Novak is dating a model 16 years his junior has left us kind of deflated. We want to be all chill about the fact that Novak is reportedly going out with Instagram model Ceilidh Garten after meeting her online, but we're not.

It's not the age difference — it's 2016, who gives a rip about a couple years — or the fact that Page Six says Novak started going out with Garten after reaching out to her on Instagram. And it's definitely not that we don't want Novak to be happy. We really, really do. But we only want him to be happy if he's with Mindy Kaling.

McDreamy just made his way back to Grey's Anatomy, and it was awful

$
0
0

Welp, if anyone needs me, I'll be under my desk drinking a bottle of wine and sobbing until the end of time — it's all Grey's Anatomy's fault, and they managed the feat in mere minutes. Seconds even.

First, here's your head's up that this article contains spoilers relevant to this week's episode of Grey's. If you haven't yet watched, check back in later. If you have, let's go over the postmortem, shall we?

So, we should probably start with the fact that this was one of those episodes. You know, the more abstract ones, where it's very artistic and beautiful but also confusing AF at times. On the plus side, we were cued into the change of pace early by an instrumental version of One Direction's "Drag Me Down" that was brilliant in its deconstruction.

As the episode got going, it was hard at first to gauge whether or not it was going to be successful. Historically, these types of episodes have been polarizing — you either really love them or really hate them, and there's not much middle ground.

Sure, it got a little choppy at times, but what was really interesting about this episode is that we essentially dealt with four characters in one room for the duration. People came and went in the peripheral, but the focus remained on those four and the patient they were operating on.

The case proved dynamic enough, as the man laying on the table in front of them basically had a shredded liver. There was nothing they could do to save it, so they had to resort to a series of "Hail Mary" efforts in order to give him a fighting chance.

More: Grey's Anatomy better be joking with this whole 'Webber might be leaving' thing

What proved to be the episode's winning aspect was the way it peeled back the layers on those four characters. How many years have we known Dr. Richard Webber now? Over a decade, but we are just now learning that his mother succumbed to pancreatic cancer when he was a young boy.

And what about Dr. Owen Hunt? We've certainly heard about his sister, Megan, but only in small doses and with little to go on. This week, in one of the episode's signature flashbacks, we "met" her for the first time. We witnessed a bit of their banter and could almost imagine how strong their sibling bond must have been when she was still alive.

As for Dr. Stephanie Edwards, more of her backstory about dealing with an autoimmune disorder as a child was revealed. Jerrika Hinton, who brings the character to life onscreen, was brilliant in this episode — and since she happens to be one of my all-time favorite interviews, I was unabashedly happy to see her shift into a more central role on the show.

Alas, then there was Dr. Meredith Grey. Based on everyone else's flashbacks, we knew some part of Meredith's past was going to resurface. Perhaps a scene with her late mother, Dr. Ellis Grey. But nope! Shonda Rhimes plays dirty, remember?

Meredith's first flashback is to the moment she had to break the news to Zola and Bailey (baby Ellis came later, of course) that Daddy wasn't ever coming home. Ellen Pompeo didn't just nail the scene, she obliterated it — along with any chance we may have had to not ugly cry this episode.

Fast forward a bit, and they've saved the patient. They accomplished the seemingly impossible, with Meredith having just pulled a 48-hour shift, no less. And that's when she explains how the doctors of Grey Sloan keep pushing forward even when they are bone-tired.

As she washes her hands for the last time before leaving for the night, Derek walks in and stands there smiling at her.

I'M NOT CRYING; YOU ARE. Predictably, Twitter (like me) lost its damn mind. Seriously, Shonda Rhimes — this one stung.

More: Why Grey's Anatomy fans still aren't over McDreamy one year later

Although, admittedly, it may have simultaneously been both the worst and best thing to happen this week. 'Cause, here's the thing: figment of Mer's imagination or not, we'll take McDreamy. We've (sorta) made peace with the fact he's gone, but seeing him onscreen again felt like coming home.

Were you happy to see Derek or heartbroken? Or both?

Supernatural's Hitler episode brought up so many feelings about Donald Trump

During Thursday's episode, Sam and Dean once again found themselves fighting Nazis. However, this time around, they came face to face with Adolf Hitler. For real, the fictional version of Hitler.

More: Yeah, Supernatural's new villain Mr. Ketch is the absolute worst

The Thule (aka Nazis) came back into the picture (the Winchesters have previously fought them) and to resurrect Hitler once and for all. How the heck do you bring back the genocidal maniac, you might be asking? Supernatural's version of Hitler's death included his loyal followers trapping his soul inside a pocket watch (you know, like a horcrux on Harry Potter). Then, they needed to find Hitler's blood relative, because that is the only way his soul could inhabit a body.

Unfortunately, Hitler was resurrected at the end of the episode, but no worries, Dean killed him. That's right, Dean killed Hitler, which he wasn't afraid to declare multiple times to Sam. Yeah, Sam will never hear the end of Dean saying, "I killed Hitler."

For many viewers, the timing of this episode was a bit eerie. Ever since he decided to run for president of the United States, Donald Trump has been compared to Hitler. Now that he beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and is the president-elect, Supernatural fans couldn't help but think of Trump while watching Sam and Dean try to stop the former Nazi party leader.

There was even one particular scene in the epsiode, titled "The One You've Been Waiting For," after Hitler was resurrected showing him as extremely goofy and eccentric. He even danced around a bit, which is something many fans probably didn't expect. It was quite comical, which might've been the point. It's unclear if the episode's intention was not only to compare Hitler and Trump, but to show just how many believe Trump is one big joke.

Whatever the case, it was hard to ignore and here are just a few ways fans reacted to the episode.

Who knows if it was Supernatural's intention to make this particular episode so timely, but it definitely spoke volumes at a time when parts of the nation are still trying to come to terms with Trump as the 45th POTUS.

Supernatural airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.

The Big Bang Theory is going Back to the Future

The Big Bang Theory's massive success has allowed for a huge budget that's bankrolled some amazing guest stars, and it sounds like they're about to add Back to the Future's Doc Brown to that list. That's right, Christopher Lloyd will soon be taking his turn filling a guest spot on the Dec. 1 episode of the CBS series.

"We're so excited to be working with Christopher Lloyd and think we've created a fun part that fans will really enjoy," the show's executive producers said in a statement on Wednesday, via Fox News.

More: Why The Big Bang Theory Sheldon Cooper spinoff isn't the best idea

The executive producers' statement is pretty vague, so of course our minds are running wild with the possibilities of what a Lloyd guest starring spot will look like. TBBT has been killing it with the family member casting lately (hello, Katey Sagal as Penny's mom and Jack McBrayer as her brother? Genius), so it would be fun to see Lloyd turn up as Sheldon's role model uncle.

We also know that Lloyd has the role of a wacky scientist down pat, so him subbing in as a professor at the university where the guys work isn't out of the question either.

Then again, it wouldn't be surprising if Lloyd showed up as Doc Brown himself in one of the guys' epic dream sequences — talking about theoretical physics and offering them an epic time travel adventure. And a cameo is not out side the realm of possibility, considering LeVar Burton, Steve Wozniak, Stan Lee, George Takei, James Earl Jones, Carrie Fisher, Stephen Hawking and, of course, Will Wheaton have all played themselves on the show.

What kind of role do you think Lloyd will play in the Dec. 1 episode?
