Looks like Billy Bush's sexist conversation with Donald Trump was career suicide

Update, Oct. 18, 9:30 a.m. PST: It's official: Billy Bush has been fired.

A note was sent out to NBC staff Tuesday morning reading, "Billy Bush will be leaving the TODAY show’s 9am hour, effective today. While he was a new member of the TODAY team, he was a valued colleague and longtime member of the broader NBC family. We wish him success as he goes forward."

Bush released a statement of his own, saying, "I am deeply grateful for the conversations I’ve had with my daughters, and for all of the support from family, friends and colleagues. I look forward to what lies ahead."

Settlement details from Bush's termination haven't been released, but one source told the Associated Press that there is no non-compete clause, meaning Bush can take another job anywhere at any time.

Update, Oct. 12, 9 a.m. PST: Billy Bush reportedly plans to sue NBC over the leaked tape that got him axed from the Today show.

According to Bush, Access Hollywood was planning to air the tape with Bush's identity protected, but NBC leaked it early.

"He told people at NBC about this tape," a source revealed. "What if there was a transcript of the tape, and high-level discussions about when to release it? Which executives were involved, and why did they decide to suppress the tape until October, when they could have aired it in August? Was it an oversight or a strategic decision by NBC to affect the race? Billy was far from the only person at NBC who was talking about the contents of this tape. On-air talent does not make the decision when to air stories like this."

Original article:

By now you've probably heard about Billy Bush and Donald Trump's sexist conversation that was recorded 11 years ago but only recently published by The Washington Post. The backlash to it was swift and has resulted in Bush being suspended from the Today show.

More: Billy Bush's 'locker room' talk with Donald Trump has come back to bite him

But does this video and Bush's subsequent suspension from NBC signal the end of his career? A source recently told People magazine that there's talk that Bush "can't recover" from this recent scandal, adding, "It's so ironic that the place that got him there — his job on Access Hollywood — is now destroying him."

The source also went on to state that the leak was "purposeful" and that it came from a source high up. "They could have released the tape and edited him out," the source stated. "That was the plan — they were trying to approve it, and then someone leaked it. That's what Access Hollywood eventually did, and they played it … but it was already out."

More: Too many of us have walked in the same shoes as DOOL star Arianne Zucker

The source also notes that no one wanted to protect Bush — and they had plenty of opportunity to do so. They said, "If they wanted to protect him, they could have edited it out, which they did on the final Access [Hollywood] piece that aired on Friday, but they left it in when it was leaked."

Bush has commented on the recording, claiming that he was sorry for his actions and deeply ashamed by his remarks. However, a large part of the Today viewership is composed of women, and it's not clear whether viewers — or staffers — will be willing to forgive and forget such sexist and demeaning "locker room" talk.

To make things even worse for Bush, there are rumors that Carson Daly is set to replace him (at least temporarily). According to Page Six, two people familiar with the situation at NBC have revealed that on Tuesday, Daly is expected to co-host the Today show with Tamron Hall, although there's no confirmation of how long he's meant to be on the show.

According to the publication, if Bush does end up returning, it might not be anytime soon as NBC considers the actions it plans to take.

Why Sheldon knocks three times on The Big Bang Theory is actually heartbreaking

Ever since The Big Bang Theory first debuted in 2007, fans have wondered why Sheldon Cooper knocks three times on a door before entering a room. Well, during Monday's episode, that question was finally answered.

More: Bernadette is truly the unsung feminist hero of The Big Bang Theory

Knocking three times in a row is one of Sheldon's many quirks, and the reason behind it is actually quite heartbreaking. In a confession to Penny, Sheldon explained that when he was just 13, he walked in on his dad having sex with another woman while his mom was at Bible study.

Since that devastating moment, Sheldon now knocks three times just to make sure he's not walking in on something that he shouldn't see, doesn't want to see or something that will upset him. As he told Penny, "The first one's traditional, but two and three are for people to get their pants on."

Sheldon knocking

Sheldon knocking

As annoying as Sheldon can be sometimes and whether or not you consider yourself a fan of his, there are times that he's relatable. Occasionally, he opens up about why he is the way he is or confesses something about himself he may be ashamed about. Those are the moments you can't help but sympathize with him.

Like with the knocking, there have been several other times when Sheldon has let others in. It's always interesting to learn more about him and why he is the way he is because he is such a unique and sometimes guarded character. With that, here are a few moments when we've gotten to know more about Sheldon as both a character and a person.

More: Does anyone else wish Penny's brother was a recurring character on TBBT?

1. When he confessed to Amy this major secret

Sheldon confesses to Amy

Sheldon confesses to Amy

In Season 9, Sheldon showed Amy his secret storage locker where he has kept every single thing he's ever owned, including old toothbrushes. It's something he's never told anyone and is ashamed of, so it was surprising to see him make such a confession to Amy. Of course, she made the situation better by not judging him and letting him know that whenever he wants to possibly throw some things out, she'll be there.

2. When he explained why he hadn't had sex with Amy yet

Sheldon and Penny

Sheldon's never been a physical or intimate person, but that all changed when he and Amy finally had sex for the first time. Though, one of the more eye-opening moments was before they consummated their relationship. Sheldon let his guard down and explained to Penny that he's always been uncomfortable with any type of physical contact, including just a handshake. Then, he even admitted that there was a possibility he would one day have sex with Amy. This was one of Sheldon's huger moments.

3. When he opened up about his hatred of Christmas

Sheldon hates Christmas

Sheldon hates Christmas

It's no secret that Sheldon hates Christmas and his hatred was finally explained in Season 6. Apparently, when he was a little boy, Sheldon asked Santa to bring back his grandfather (aka "Pop-Pop") who had just died that same year because he missed him. However, Santa didn't do that, and Sheldon has never looked at Santa or the holiday the same way again.

4. When he revealed the one ability he'd love to possess

Sheldon ability

While asking each other questions to get to know each other better, Sheldon revealed the one ability he'd want to have. He wished he could read minds, so he wouldn't feel so out of the loop about how people are feeling, what they really mean or what they're trying to tell him. It's hard for Sheldon to understand emotions and social cues, which is why he'd want to be a mind reader — then he wouldn't feel so stressed about being around people.

5. When he opened up about why he hates his birthday

Sheldon hates his birthday

Sheldon hates his birthday

Sheldon doesn't like presents, celebrations or surprises, which is why he was so against celebrating his birthday in the 200th episode. Before changing his mind and allowing Amy to throw him a party, Sheldon confessed that the reason he hates his birthday is because when he was younger all of his twin sister's friends would tease him constantly at their party. He also admitted that people he invited would never show up, but that didn't bother him so much, unlike being tortured by his sister's friends on his birthday.

Over the course of 10 seasons, fans sure have learned a lot about Sheldon Cooper, haven't they?

Ever since it was announced that Netflix is reviving Gilmore Girls, fans of the beloved series haven't been able to contain their excitement. It certainly is thrilling news for those who will forever hold a special place in their hearts for Rory, Lorelai, every other character and, of course, the town of Stars Hollow.

More: Gilmore Girls reboot: Where did the relationships end?

So, until fans can actually sit down and binge the episodes, let's keep track of everything we know so far about the GG revival.

1. The official trailer

Gilmore Girls trailer

Gilmore Girls trailer

This revival trailer is everything fans could've hoped for.

2. There will be four new episodes

There are four 90-minute episodes, which are all titled after the four seasons. The first episode will be "Winter," and the last will be "Fall."

3. The release date

All four episodes will officially be released on Friday, Nov. 25 at 12:01 a.m. PT.

4. There will be a time jump

The revival is set in the present, which is around eight years after the series came to a close.

5. These characters are all returning

Basically, every single character Gilmore Girls fans know and love is returning, including Lorelai, Rory, Emily and Luke.

More: QUIZ: Think you're the biggest Gilmore Girls fan? Prove it!

6. Rory's love interests are appearing

Yes, all three of Rory's major love interests will make an appearance. It's unclear who she will end up with (or if she'll end up with any of them), but Dean, Jess and Logan are all returning.

7. The original series creator returned

Original series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino wrote all four episodes. Each of them also directed two of them.

8. The series title

The revival is titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

9. Those final four words

The infamous final four words ASP had planned since the very beginning will finally be revealed. They will also be exchanged between Lorelai and Rory. As Lauren Graham told Entertainment Weekly, the final four words don't bring closure, but actually set up some type of a cliff-hanger.

10. First-look photos

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, fans can get a better view of the revival through these sneak-peek photos.

More: Jess' official return to Gilmore Girls could mean bad news for Dean fans

11. Luke and Lorelai's relationship status

After all these years, Luke and Lorelai are still not married, EW revealed (via TV Line). As frustrating as that is, there is going to be a wedding, so maybe it's theirs?

12. Richard's death

Seeing as Edward Herrmann died in 2014, his character Richard will no longer be part of the GG universe. Kelly Bishop told TV Line that when the revival begins, four months have passed since Richard's death.

13. A lot of new characters

From Parenthood's Mae Whitman (yes, she is reuniting with her TV mom Graham), to Younger's Sutton Foster, to Bunheads' Stacey Oristano, to Scandal's Dan Bucatinsky, there are a lot of new characters popping up in Stars Hollow.

14. Melissa McCarthy will return

Despite all of that drama over whether or not, and why McCarthy wouldn't return as Sookie, that's all over and done with. She is back as Lorelai's best friend — thank goodness.

15. Here is the poster

Just look at that cup of coffee. It's just so GG.

16. Lorelai still loves snow

Lorelai and Rory snow

In this photo shared by Entertainment Weekly, it's good to know that Lorelai's infatuation with snow hasn't gone away. Also, can we talk about how beautiful this photo is?

17. Luke and Lorelai are surprised by something

Lorelai and Luke

Lorelai and Luke

Hmm... what are these two so shocked over? Is Kirk showing a horrible movie at the Stars Hollow movie theater? Does it have to do with all that baby talk? Whatever it is, Luke and Lorelai are really surprised.

18. A funeral is happening

Emily, Lorelai, Rory

Emily, Lorelai, Rory

Based on the above photo released by Entertainment Weekly, Emily, Rory and Lorelai are all at the cemetery. I can only imagine this is in relation to the death of Richard. If this photo is making me emotional now, I can only imagine how I'll feel seeing it play out on-screen.

19. They still eat at Luke's Diner

Luke's diner

Luke's diner

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, fans will feel so much excitement over seeing Rory and Lorelai hanging once again with Luke at his diner. Also, take note of Lorelai drinking coffee, those holiday decorations in the background and how Luke is still wearing his famous hat.

20. Rory's job is...

In a September interview with Us Weekly, Alexis Bledel revealed that despite all of the speculation over Rory possibly being a teacher, she is definitely not. "She has been working hard, as she does," Bledel said. "She started her work as a journalist at the same time that newspapers were going away. Her field changed dramatically as she was just kind of getting up and running. So that’s where we pick up with her." She added, "It’s real time, so it’s been about eight years that she’s been living a bit of a vagabond lifestyle, kind of chasing each story that she becomes passionate about and wants to tell." Everyone feel better now?

21. This other coffee-themed poster

GG poster

GG poster

Just in time for National Coffee Day on Thursday, Sept. 29, this poster — featuring Lorelai, Rory and of course, coffee — was released.

22. Another mini Parenthood reunion

While chatting with Bustle, Parenthood star Sarah Ramos revealed that not only did she visit Lauren Graham on the set of the GG revival, but she also filmed a scene. She doesn't have any lines, but may be spotted in the background at some point near the gazebo. Here's hoping she just happens to be in the same episode as her and Graham's other Parenthood co-star, Mae Whitman.

23. Some "intense adult scenes"

Scott Patterson revealed at Entertainment Weekly's pre-Emmys party (via E! News) that Luke and Lorelai will have some steamy scenes. He said, "There are definitely some fireworks there. We did some really intense adult scenes. Since the movies are only an hour and a half long, it has way more detail and the writing is deeper and seems longer, so it sort of changed." Well, that sure sounds like something fans will enjoy.

24. A new featurette

Gilmore Girls featurette

Oct. 5 was the 16th anniversary of Gilmore Girls, and what better way to celebrate than with a new video featuring past footage and the cast talking about the revival? Despite no new footage being shown, there are short interviews with the cast about their characters and what they love about the series.

25. These seasonal posters are stunning

Netflix released four posters for the revival, which appropriately feature the four seasons. They are beyond beautiful and partially thanks to Rory and Lorelai.

4 tips to make the adoption process way less scary

$
0
0

The spooky season is upon us, full of mystery and magic that comes with the Halloween holiday. Some people feel that Halloween is similar to adoption in that it seems mysterious and full of surprises, but understanding some basics about the process will help you begin your adoption journey on the right foot. To celebrate the season, here are some scary good tips for adoption success.

More: Domestic adoption isn't as scary or impossible as it may seem

Don’t believe in adoption myths

There are many myths surrounding adoption that cause people to second guess their path. Understanding what is myth and what is fact will help you make better decisions during your journey and will build confidence throughout the process.

For example:

  • Birth parents cannot take the child back after the adoption is completed. They sign consent forms that terminate their parental rights. However, most domestic adoptions these days have some level of mutually agreed upon openness. This means that the adoptive parents and the birth parents will stay in contact at some level that, ideally, is beneficial for the child. This is proven to help improve the child’s development and emotional well-being.
  • International adoption is popular among celebrities, but is often more expensive, more unpredictable, and takes longer than domestic adoption.
  • There are no legal restrictions keeping LGBQT families from adopting. While individual agencies might have different policies, gay and lesbian singles and couples are able to adopt like anyone else. However the process might take longer due to birth mother preferences.

Start now and be ready by New Year's Eve

Waiting until the first of the year to start your adoption journey could needlessly draw out your waiting period. When you begin adoption, you have to learn about the process, select your professionals, create your profile, complete your home study, and then wait. But many potential birth mothers who find out they are pregnant near the end of the year will put off making a decision until January, making January and February a busy time for matches. If you start now, you can be ready to be presented to prospective birth mothers in January.

More: 3 ways to avoid being offensive when talking about adoption

Find a team of adoption professionals

There is no question that the adoption process is confusing! Trying to learn the process and do it yourself will cause bumps in your journey towards a family and will significantly lengthen the process. You have to know the best way to present yourself to a prospective birth mother, to sign up with multiple adoption agencies, to have a risk assessment performed on every opportunity, and the list goes on. This doesn’t even include understanding your state’s particular adoption laws which can vary wildly, the best method to lobby your employer for adoption leave, or different ways to pay for adoption and reduce the costs where you can.

It is important to hire people, such as an adoption consultant, who understand the process and know exactly what you need to do to see a quick and successful adoption.

Keep an open and flexible mind

There may be some firm parameters you have for the opportunities that you’ll consider, but understand the more requirements you have, the longer your wait time will be. For example, some people want to adopt a boy instead of a girl, or vice versa and they expect that to eliminate about 50 percent of their opportunities. What they don’t factor in is all the potential birth moms who are unaware of the baby’s gender prior to selecting a family. This is just one example of how it’s important to be fully informed of the implications of each of your decisions. You don’t have to give up things that are important to you for the sake of a shorter wait time, but realize the process could take longer the more criteria you have.

10 foods you don't actually need to keep in the fridge

$

Quick raise of hands — how many of you never, ever keep tomatoes in the refrigerator? It's because refrigeration kills the flavor and texture. We know this, don't we — from experience. Well, today is a good day for validation, because a new scientific study is backing up what we already know.

The thing is, as careful as we are about food safety, there are just some things that not only don't need to be refrigerated, but actually taste better if they're kept out of the cold. Here are the top 10 we say you can leave out. See if you agree.

More: All about sweet potatoes, the tuber you'll want to eat all winter

1. Tomatoes

A recent scientific study led by horticulturalist Bo Zhang of the University of Florida actually proved that chilling the fruit at low temperatures keeps the tomato from developing that deep, rich, tangy tomatoey flavor we love. This is why tomatoes from far away don't taste as good as locally grown tomatoes, and nothing tastes as good as your own homegrown tomatoes, which you already know. We're just saying, there's scientific proof backing us up now.

2. Eggs

It turns out eggs don't necessarily need to be kept in the fridge. In other countries, people leave them on the counter, no problemo. The difference is that in the U.S., eggs are washed after being collected, which removes a natural antibacterial barrier from the egg and makes the eggshells more likely to carry traces of salmonella. But if you can get your eggs from a neighbor with chickens or a local farmer before they go through the washing process, then you can leave them out.

3. Honey

Honey is kind of amazing. If you keep it in a sealed container in a dry place, it can last forever. Literally! And you shouldn't refrigerate it. Studies have shown that the temperature of refrigerators actually encourages honey to crystallize, which leads to a texture many find unpalatable, though again, the honey is still safe to eat. As long as it isn't contaminated with too much moisture, a jar of honey you have today could be eaten in 1,000 years with no ill consequence.

4. Ketchup

If your family goes through a ton of ketchup, then you can probably keep it in the pantry instead of the fridge. The high acid and sugar content of ketchup means it can be safely consumed for up to a month when stored at room temperature .

5. Potatoes

The starches in potatoes actually begin to convert into sugar when they are refrigerated, making them sweet. Leave your potatoes in a cool, dark place instead.

More: Your guide to alternative sugars: What to love, what to avoid and why

6. Basil

I took me years to realize basil doesn't go bad within a matter of days — I was just storing it wrong. Basil hates cold weather, so storing it in the fridge is a big no-no. Instead, keep it in a cup of water (like you would a bouquet of flowers), and cover loosely with a plastic bag to keep it moist. Your basil can last more than a week with this method. Just be sure to change the water every two days.

7. Bread

A lot of people throw bread into the fridge, fearing it will get stale and moldy if left on the counter. But the refrigerator dries out and stales bread much faster than normal, basically ruining it. If you don't think you'll eat your bread before mold starts to settle in, then you should freeze it.

8. Apples

Apples can last up to two weeks at room temperature. Try leaving them in a pretty bowl on the counter instead of taking up a ton of space in the fridge.

9. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are sensitive li'l veggies, and refrigeration can actually cause them to go bad more quickly than leaving them on the counter. Keeping them in the fridge for more than three days can lead to "cold injury," like excessive wateriness, pitting and decay. Cukes should also be kept away from foods that produce a lot of ethylene, like melons, bananas and tomatoes.

10. Hot sauce

Hot sauce is basically made of spicy peppers, vinegar and salt. Because vinegar and salt are preservatives, hot sauce doesn't need to be refrigerated. Just keep it tightly sealed and in a dry place. If any water gets into it, then that could increase the chance of spoilage.

This Is Us' Chrissy Metz is the perfect combo of brains, beauty and talent

If you're like us, by now you've probably completely fallen in love with NBC's new show This Is Us. From the tear-jerking storylines to the well-timed snippets of comic relief and back to the insane plot twists they keep throwing our way — it's safe to say we're enamored.

It's also safe to say we are beyond obsessed with the show's entire cast. They're a crazy-talented ensemble that includes the likes of Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown and Justin Hartley — but the breakout performer who's stolen our hearts is, without a doubt, Chrissy Metz.

More: This is Us' Chrissy Metz's battle with self-acceptance started with Hollywood

Find out why.

1. She earned her success

Chrissy Metz 2

Chrissy Metz 2

While Hollywood certainly has its fair share of overnight success stories, Metz is not one of them. No, she had to claw her way to the big-time through hard work and determination, and it makes us admire her that much more.

Metz chatted with SheKnows about how difficult it was to balance acting with trying to pay the bills early on in her career.

"It’s just about trying to find your footing," Metz told us of striking a balance between working a day job, studying the craft and going out on auditions. "But I also felt like, 'What am I doing? I’m gonna get stuck in a vortex.'"

But Metz persevered and ended up on a hit NBC show. It doesn't get much better than that.

2. She has a healthy outlook on life

Chrissy Metz 1

Metz may have struggled while coming up, but the experience hasn't made her hardened or bitter. In fact, it's made her appreciate everything that's happening now that much more.

"Success is about happiness and what makes you happy and not necessarily how many shows you booked that year or how much money you have in your bank account," Metz told us. "Because all those things are fleeting. But it was so important for me to go on this journey the way I did — because I believe everything happens for a reason. So while it was really difficult, there's a lot of humility and I’m really grateful for the whole scope of what happened."

3. The girl can sang

We got a little taste of Metz's voice in the third episode of This Is Us, but her performance in the old-folks home was really just the tip of the iceberg.

4. She knows life is all about love

"The stories we are made to believe — that if we look this way, drive this car, live in that zip code, we will ultimately be happy. We constantly compare and compete with one another — and for what?" she said in an interview with Chubstr. "We all want the same thing. We all just want to be respected and admired. That all boils down to love. We end up sacrificing who we truly are just to get back to the place that we originated from, which is love."

5. She was in frickin' American Horror Story

Chrissy Metz 4

Chrissy Metz 4

AHS has been our obsession for years, and Metz was amazing as Ima Wiggles in the Freak Show season. But what's even more impressive than her performance in Freak Show is her feeling about her character.

"I would like to think talent 'weighs' out, but plus-size actresses are still typically the butt of the joke in the storyline," she told Chubstr. "What was especially wonderful in Freak Show was that, not only was Ima accepted into the freak family, but she accepted herself, first. It was also really refreshing to see a big girl who was attractive, and dare I say, sought after. Hair/makeup and costumes really made me feel pretty, no matter what size I was. Can I get an Amen?"

Amen.

"I’ve had these responses from men and women who’ve been so kind and loving and wonderful and gracious and it’s overwhelming," she told us. "It's really overwhelming, but I feel truly in my heart that we're here to commune, and we're a community, and to be close as human beings and to make — we're all here to help each other and if I can do that while pursuing my dreams, it's unreal."

Ashley Olsen's hiking buddy has the dating rumor mill going crazy

We all know how dating rumors go in the celeb world. Once a pair of good-looking famous people are seen together doing anything, really, it's just common knowledge that they must be dating.

More: Ashley Olsen’s rumored boyfriend’s past isn’t her problem

So it goes for Ashley Olsen, who's been recently linked to entrepreneur and Pressed Juicery founder Hayden Slater after they were photographed hiking together in Los Angeles.

Ashley Olsen boyfriend rumors 2`

Ashley Olsen boyfriend rumors 2`

The two hit the trails with Slater's dog, a huge rottweiler, both dressed in super-casual workout gear. Their clothes alone makes me inclined to think they aren't dating because I know I wouldn't be caught dead on a date with a relatively new guy in a super-baggy sweater, oversized sweatpants and no makeup with my hair in a messy pony like Olsen. Then again, I'm not a rich, successful fashion designer, so maybe she doesn't try as hard as I do.

More: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's legacy earns its own museum

There is at least a little more evidence that these two are a new couple. They were spotted running errands together in Hollywood a few days ago, and they attended an engagement party together, where they posed for a group photo and held hands. That's definitely more solid evidence of romance than the simple fact that they went for a hike together.

Ashley Olsen boyfriend rumors 1

Still, every man in whose proximity Olsen is seen makes headlines that speculate about her new boyfriend. Most recently, it was 59-year-old painter George Condo, who is literally old enough to be her grandfather. Though they went out to dinner together, they were definitely not dating. So pardon me if I'm not quite sold on the newest rumors about Olsen's relationship status.

Let's be real — these kids had nothing to do with their awesome Halloween costumes

Understandably, since it’s October, there are lots of stories floating around about unique and funny Halloween costumes for little kids (typically kids too small to put up much of an argument about what they’re wearing). What I don’t understand is why the kids are so often credited with unique taste and witty ideas.

Here are just a few examples.

Pop-culture costumes

Let’s be real. It’s not the kids here that are cool. Little kids do not think Thelma and Louise, Dwight Schrute, or Mike Ditka are “cool.” These kids just happen to have nostalgic parents who want some compliments on their pop-culture acumen.

Boy in Star Wars costume (video)

Boy in Star Wars costume (video)

No actual parents received credit for this video clip of a young Star Wars fan.

Props for a photo opp

It’s very strange to see the children credited for adult ideas and taste, particularly when it’s abundantly clear that the kids are pretty much just props for a photo opp.

Listen, I totally get the desire to put your kid in a witty costume. My toddler has a perfectly functional turtle costume, but I felt compelled to buy him an alien outfit because his brother is dressing up as an astronaut and if the two of them don’t have related costumes (and then document it for social media), I might as well just go live in a cave somewhere. But I would never act like it was my boys’ idea for the themed costumes (and truth be told, the 4-year-old would much rather dress up like Batman or a Star Wars character than a generic astronaut, but we’ll deal with that later.)

Parents secretly want the credit any time their kids do something awesome (and of course, would prefer to be far, far away whenever their kids do something not-so-awesome.) So why do these Halloween stories act like the kids had anything to do with it? For future kid-wears-awesome-costume stories, I would like the following details included:

  • When the parents had the bandwidth to come up with a cool costume idea
  • Where they were able to procure said costumes and at what cost
  • How they were able to convince their children to wear said costumes

... and finally, most crucially...

  • How they were able to trick their children into posing nicely in said outfits

I know that in today’s political climate, there is a lot of criticism being leveled at the press. I think that by focusing “kid wears neat costume” stories away from the kids and more toward the parents, we can finally begin to heal as a nation.

Can Jorge and Anifsa create a healthy relationship on 90 Day Fiancé?

Anifsa and Jorge are five weeks in to their journey to become husband and wife. On the latest episode on TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé we see that Anifsa is looking to build her modeling career with Jorge's help. Jorge tells the camera that he will do anything to make her happy, which is why he is trying to kickstart her modeling career.

More: Sonia and Nick on Married at First Sight are struggling with communication

While it may be a bit controversial to some that Anifsa wants a modeling career to be ‘rich and famous,’ I would assume that most of the audience is wondering whether she has realistic goals. Jorge seems to question this career goal, but he remains supportive in the moment as he appears to be constantly trying to make her happy. But this is actually a fault in the relationship as no one is solely dependent on the other for happiness. Everyone has to make themselves happy on the inside. This idea that he is constantly trying to do things or buy things to make her happy is not something that will create a long lasting and healthy relationship. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be as obvious to Jorge as it is to the outside viewer. Hopefully, he will be able to see that trying to make someone else happy through external things won't work for long.

I would also be concerned that the basis of this relationship appears to be on monetary things. We routinely see Anifsa discussing money and superficial things. They each knew this before she arrived in the United States as Jorge knew how she spoke as they developed a relationship long distance, so it’s not a surprise to him. I would think that the amount of jealousy and the inability to manage this will be an issue as time develops. Jorge appears uncomfortable with her modeling and tells the camera that, ‘he will suppress his jealousy.’ The two admit on camera that they do not know how to handle their jealousy.

More: Two couples are headed for splitsville on Married at First Sight

Ironically, Jorge feels that this is the happiest he has seen her, which just proves that a healthy relationship is one in which happiness needs to start from the individual and then grow to the couple. One has to feel happiness with themselves and not just look for the other person to create their happiness. What should concern him is that when she shows a positive attitude she is doing something external to their relationship, such as modeling. She continues to have a theory that ‘Jorge will have to deal with this.’ This also is not a positive element in a healthy relationship.

Yes, sometimes a little bit of jealousy is OK in a relationship. It really matters why each individual feels jealous and where the feeling originates from. Some self-reflection or therapy might be useful in this case. Since this couple is already experiencing some challenges with jealousy early on, and even when they were dating long distance, it is not a great sign for creating a healthy union for the future.

They both seem to lack skills to handle their uncomfortable feelings of jealousy. Handling jealousy through arguing or playing games is not a recipe for success. The couple most likely needs to deal with the underlying issues causing the jealousy and work through this on their own. The two seem not to have navigated a way to manage uncomfortable feelings in an appropriate manner to manage conflict and reduce jealousy. They both told the makeup artist in the photo shoot that they do not trust each other. In my view, this is not a great start to a healthy relationship. Building trust would reduce jealousy, but these two do not have trust in each other. It is definitely something they will hopefully reflect on to figure out what a healthy and stable relationship looks like.

I guess we will see in the next episode next week how the couple can resolve this issue.

How to figure out what to eat when you don't know what you're in the mood for

$

You know that indefinite craving we all get — when you're hungry for something, but you can't figure out what? Or you're trying to decide where to eat out or where to order from, but nothing sounds quite right? Or you're standing in your kitchen going, "durrr" because what do you want?!?

What do you want
Image: Tumblr

Well, I think we may have stumbled onto the solution to that problem. It's a new app they're calling the "Tinder of food," and yeah, it's supposed to connect you to restaurants. But you could totally hack this thing to help you find recipes too. Allow me to introduce you to the Entreé app.

More: Carla Hall on the weird, wonderful, woo-woo path to being a celebrity chef

Basically, the app shows you a bunch of dishes served at restaurants near you, and you swipe right or left depending on what looks good-ish. Over time it learns your preferences and gets better at sending your belly's desires.

More: 10 apps that will make you hate meal planning a lot less

Here's the thing, though. You need to prime the pump. Because if you start swiping for the first time right when you're feeling indecisively hungry, it's going to go on forever. You're going to stay just as ravenous and frustrated as ever.

Instead, spend a couple of minutes swiping away right after each meal (so you don't make yourself hungry) for a few days so the app gets to know your preferences. That way, when you really need that app, it's ready for you with dishes it knows you'll want.

And remember, you can use this for cooking inspiration. Maybe you're planning your meals for the week (because you're organized like that, ha-ha) and you need ideas. Swipe through Entreé and there's your inspiration.

More: Meal-plan like a boss: A Sunday afternoon can keep your family fed all week

Of course, there is still such a thing as too much inspiration. You go try this out and let us know if it actually helps or if it makes you just as fickle as someone on Tinder trying to find a hookup.

Tobey Maguire & Jennifer Meyer go about their divorce in the best way possible

It seems like every week there's a new high-profile celebrity split, and this week is no exception.

More: Miranda Lambert & Anderson East's future includes big things — like babies!

Tobey Maguire and his wife of nine years, Jennifer Meyer, just announced with a joint statement that they're separating. Whether they have actually yet filed for divorce is unclear.

"After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple," they wrote. "As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship."

More: Finally, a report about Lamar Odom's health that isn't dire and depressing

Maguire and Meyer share two children, 9-year-old daughter Ruby and 7-year-old son Otis.

The couple met back in 2003 — Meyer, whose father owns Universal Studios, met Maguire on the set of Seabiscuit, which was filming there. They started dating almost immediately, but didn't tie the knot until four years later in a small, intimate wedding ceremony in Kona, Hawaii, with only a handful of family and friends present.

Though not quite as famous as Maguire, Meyer has owned and operated a successful jewelry line since before they met. Maguire, Meyer and their children have been living private lives out of the public eye for a few years now — Maguire's last acting job was in 2014's Pawn Sacrifice.

Kerry Washington gave her son a Hebrew name, just like his sister

Kerry Washington is officially a mom of two!

More: Kerry Washington's Adweek mag cover literally looks nothing like her

Washington, who keeps the press far, far out of her business, didn't reveal the birth of her first daughter, Isabelle, until two weeks after she delivered. She also secretly wed her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, in 2013 without a soul catching on, and her pregnancy announcement was nothing more than her showing up to the White House Correspondents' Dinner sporting a baby bump. She's the queen of keeping her personal life personal.

This time, news of the birth of her second baby, a boy, hit headlines in 13 days, so the media must be getting marginally better at finding out information about this particularly reclusive star.

More: Women of Shondaland gather to endorse Hillary Clinton (VIDEO)

Her baby boy was reportedly born Oct. 5, and Washington and her husband have named him Caleb Kelechi. The name shares a little bit of a theme with his big sister's. They're both Hebrew names, and they both mean "devoted to God."

While details are obviously scarce surrounding little Caleb's birth and anything else about him — obviously, because Washington doesn't give any of this info away — she has spoken out on occasion about how much she loves being a mother.

"I will say I feel really, really blessed," she said in a Los Angeles Times interview after Isabelle was born. "I just feel really blessed that I'm kind of living extraordinary dreams come true in my work life and in my personal life."

Curry pumpkin soup recipe

curry pumpkin soup
Image: Erin Kunkel

My grandmother would prepare a big batch of pumpkin soup for the adults to eat while the kids went out to get their treats for the night, and my mom took on this tradition when we were growing up. This is my rendition of the recipe she has been using for decades.

Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 2 (2 pound) sugar or pie pumpkins
  • 2 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 4 carrots, peeled and quartered
  • 1 yellow onion, quartered
  • 5 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 6 cups chicken stock
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 6 ounces sweet Italian sausage, casings removed and meat crumbled
  • 1/3 cup fresh sage leaves

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the pumpkins in half and remove the seeds and stringy pulp. Sprinkle the flesh side of the pumpkin halves with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and 1/4 teaspoon of the white pepper, then place the pumpkin halves cut side down on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle the pumpkins with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil. Scatter the carrots, onion and garlic around the pumpkins on the baking sheet. Roast for 45 minutes, or until the pumpkin is soft.
  2. Scoop out the pumpkin flesh and discard the skins. Combine the pumpkin flesh, roasted vegetables and 2 cups of stock in a blender and purée until smooth.
  3. Heat the remaining 1-1/2 tablespoons olive oil in a stockpot over medium-high heat. Add the cinnamon, ginger, cumin, coriander, allspice and bay leaves. Stir constantly for 30 seconds, then add the remaining 4 cups of stock, the maple syrup and the puréed mixture. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove the bay leaves. Season to taste with the remaining 2-1/2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 teaspoon white pepper. Stir in the almond and coconut milks, then turn the heat to low and keep the soup warm.
  4. Put the sausage in a skillet over medium heat and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until browned. Add the sage leaves and continue sautéing until the sage leaves are crispy and the sausage is cooked through. Drain and serve on top of the soup as a garnish.

Notes:

  • You can substitute 6 (15 ounce) cans of organic pure pumpkin purée for the roasted pumpkins.
  • Make the soup up to 3 days in advance and reheat over medium-low heat.
  • To freeze, refrigerate the soup until it is cool, then freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook the sausage and sage just before serving.

Green bean casserole with crispy shallots recipe

green bean casserole

Thanksgiving just doesn’t feel the same without this creamy casserole, so I have re-created it Against all Grain–style, without the heavy cream, MSG or gluten. I could eat the mushroom sauce in this dish by the spoonful.

Serves 10 – 12

Ingredients:

Casserole

  • 1 cup (about 150 grams) whole raw cashews
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter) or extra-virgin olive oil
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, halved
  • 1 shallot, peeled and chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons sherry (optional)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-3/4 cups chicken stock
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 pounds haricots verts (thin green beans), ends trimmed

Topping

  • 1/2 cup palm shortening, bacon fat or ghee for frying
  • 2 shallots, peeled and thinly sliced into rings

Directions:

  1. Place the cashews in a bowl and cover them with boiling water. Soak for 1 hour.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the ghee in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, shallot and garlic and sauté for 10 minutes, or until the mushrooms and shallot have softened. Pour in the sherry and simmer for 5 minutes to reduce the liquid.
  3. Drain and rinse the cashews, transfer them to a blender, add the water and blend until very smooth.
  4. Add the mushroom mix, half of the stock and the salt, pepper and thyme to the blender and pulse a few times until the mushrooms are bite-size. Pour the mixture into a bowl and stir in the remaining stock. Set aside to cool for 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  6. Combine the mushroom mixture with the haricots verts and spoon into a casserole dish. Bake, covered, for 30 minutes, until the beans are tender and the sauce is bubbling. Uncover and bake for 15 minutes more.
  7. Meanwhile, to make the topping, heat the palm shortening in a small, deep saucepan over medium-high heat. Working in batches, panfry the shallots for about 5 minutes, until golden brown. Drain and cool in a single layer on a plate lined with paper towels.
  8. Top the casserole with the crispy shallots and serve warm.

Note:

Make it ahead: Since this dish involves a few steps, it’s helpful to do it in stages ahead of time. Make the sauce up to 3 days in advance and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Trim the haricots verts and store in a bowl of water, tightly covered, in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Prepare the assembled casserole up to 2 days in advance, cover and store in the refrigerator.

Maple pumpkin pie recipe

maple pumpkin pie
Image: Erin Kunkel

This is my favorite dessert of the season, and I cannot wait for the excuse to make it every year. A little secret: My favorite way to eat it is cold, straight from the fridge, and sometimes for breakfast!

Serves 8 – 10

Ingredients:

Crust

  • Basic pie pastry (recipe below), frozen for 1 hour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon full-fat coconut milk

Filling

  • 2 cups fresh pumpkin purée or 1 (15 ounce) can pure pumpkin
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup or light-colored raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Whipped coconut cream or whipped cream

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Reserve 1/4 of the dough to make decorative toppings. Press the remaining dough into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate, using the palms of your hands to ensure the crust is even throughout. Press together any breaks in the dough, then crimp or flute the edges with your fingers. Cut a round of parchment paper to fit the bottom of the crust and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Freeze until firm, about 15 minutes.
  2. Bake the pie shell for 10 minutes, remove the weights and parchment paper and bake for 5 minutes more, or until the crust is golden. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Roll out the reserved pie pastry between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Make an egg wash by mixing together the egg yolk and coconut milk and brush onto the pastry shapes. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until the shapes are golden. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Increase the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Place the pie shell on a rimmed baking sheet and brush the edges with the remaining egg wash.
  5. To make the filling, whisk together the pumpkin, eggs, coconut milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, lemon zest and salt. Pour the filling into the prepared pie shell. Bake for 15 minutes, then cover the crust with foil and continue baking for 20 minutes, or until the custard has set but still jiggles slightly in the center. Turn off the oven and leave it cracked open for 30 minutes while the pie cools.
  6. Cool to room temperature on a wire rack, then place the decorative cutouts around the perimeter of the pie and place it in the refrigerator to fully set, about 2 hours. Serve with the whipped coconut cream or whipped cream.

Basic pie pastry recipe

Yields 1 (9 inch) single-crust pie

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1 cup arrowroot powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 eggs, chilled
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 4 tablespoons palm shortening, chilled

Directions:

  1. To make the pie dough, combine the almond flour, arrowroot, coconut sugar, eggs, water and salt in a food processor. Process for 10 seconds, or until combined. Add the palm shortening, spacing out where the tablespoons are dropped into the dough. Pulse 4 to 5 times, until pea-size bits of dough form.
  2. Gather the dough into a tight ball and flatten it into a disk. Wrap tightly and freeze for 1 hour.
  3. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie plate and press it into the bottom and up the sides of the plate, using the palms of your hands to ensure the crust is even throughout. Press together any breaks in the dough, then crimp or flute the edges with your fingers.
  4. To partially bake the crust, cut a round of parchment paper to fit the bottom of the crust and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake at 325 degrees F for 10 minutes, remove the weights and parchment paper and bake for 5 minutes more, or until the crust is golden. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Note:

Make it ahead: This pie keeps well, covered tightly with plastic wrap, for up to 3 days in the refrigerator and actually gets better with time.

Tyra Banks still seems deeply affected by her feud with Naomi Campbell

Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell may have ended their years-long feud, but that doesn't mean everyone is over it.

More: 6 things to know about Tyra Banks' baby daddy, Erik Asla

In a new interview on the Norwegian-Swedish show Skavlan, Banks dished on Campbell's past actions and the serious effects they had on her as a young model.

"I don't want to go too deep into the past, but it was very difficult — very, very. Some of the lowest times of my life. I'm dealing with that," Banks said, explaining that Campbell treated her poorly because so many people in the modeling industry said that Banks, also a black model, was coming to take Campbell's place. "I don't condone her actions and her response, but I understand where it comes from because the world is saying, 'You're not gonna have your spot; we're gonna take your money, we're gonna take your fame. Go sit down; there's somebody else.'"

Banks continued, "You know, so that's pretty serious. She reacted strongly, but I kind of understand where that was coming from inside of her."

Despite Banks' harsh words now recalling those memories, she and Campbell did work to put their feud behind them. Years after both of their modeling careers ended, Campbell actually appeared on Banks' talk show and apologized to her during a commercial break.

"And, oh my God, I just cried like a baby," Banks said about the day Campbell apologized. "To hear that after so many years of pain and dealing with it publically... me having to leave agencies because of her... to hear that apology meant the world to me. She has no idea what that did for me."

With the passing of M&M's 75th anniversary this year, the candy giant unveiled its newest flavor, and no, it's not pumpkin spice. It's the sweet, creamy syrup we like swirled on our ice cream and drizzled in our coffee... it's caramel M&M's!

It's been a long time coming for M&M's to release their take on the ultimate flavor combination of chocolate and caramel. Honestly, I would have thought they already had them.

More: M&M's are proving that butterbeer is the new pumpkin spice

And now, we'll get them in delicious bite-size pieces!

The new candy will be filled with a soft and smooth caramel center surrounded by the familiar chocolate shell and crunchy candy coating. At only 190 calories per serving, these bites of caramel goodness sound like they're going to be our new go-to candy when we're in the mood for a little something sweet.

But there's a catch — caramel M&M's won't be available until May of 2017.

Darn it! I guess we'll just have to settle for regular M&M's or pretzel M&M's or peanut butter M&M's showing up in our holiday gift bags instead.

How to write a résumé that will actually catch an employer's eye

$
0
0

Let's face it. Looking for a job today is much easier said than done, especially if you're new to the working world or jumping into a different field. Just deciding to take the leap is hard enough, but then you have to craft the perfect résumé. As with anything job-related, there are many traps one can fall into when crafting or re-crafting their résumé.

More: 7 questions that determine how well you interview for a job

For example, if it's been a while since you were out pounding the pavement, so to speak, it's important to know that résumé styles have changed. If you want your application to be taken seriously and stand apart from the rest (in a good way), here are a few tips from seasoned hirers across many fields on how to improve your career calling card.

1. Make sure all experience is relevant to the job for which you're applying

It's tempting to just send out the same old résumé every time you apply for a job, especially if they're all in the same field for the most part. However, unless you're applying for the exact same position every time, you'll want to be sure all the experience you have on your résumé is pertinent to the particular position for which you're currently applying.

Matthew Mercuri, Director of Human Resources at Dupray, told SheKnows, "The best résumés are the one that are tightly relevant to the job description. Applying to become a Web Designer? Unfortunately, your time as a waiter really doesn’t help. Ultimately, we do want to know about that server job, but you need to find the right balance between telling us about your general work experience and your relevant work experience."

2. Make the pertinent skills for that job jump out at a recruiter

It may sound silly, but putting skills that make you the perfect candidate for the job in bold will help get you in the "interview" pile. Rebecca Barnes-Hogg, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, at Yolo Insights, told SheKnows, "Highlight the skills and experience I asked for in my job posting. I have about 20 seconds to scan your résumé and find the information I need. Don't make it hard."

3. Show what you've achieved at previous jobs, not just what you did day-to-day

It's all about proving to the hirer that you have skills that are essential to the job he/she is looking to fill. Show how you've gotten from this point to that, and make it look like an ascent, not a flat path. "The information clearly shows a career progression — transferable skills — and showcases contributions and results that are critical aspects of the job I'm filling. I don't want to see a list of your daily tasks. I want to know what you've achieved and why it matters," said Barnes-Hogg.

More: Why you should stop trying to network and start connecting

4. Put your strengths first, not work experience

If you're just entering the job market, you might be concerned about your lack of job experience. Don't be. According to expert hirers, in today's job market, strengths, if they can be articulated well and prove useful, are often more noteworthy (and attention-drawing) than work experience.

Jeremy Levi, Director of Marketing at MarsMedSupply, told SheKnows, "Work experience can be over-inflated very easily, especially if you worked for a small business. If you can pinpoint your strengths at the top of your résumé, and work on tying it in to your experience, you can stand out from the stack of boring résumés those of us in charge of hiring are inevitably left sifting through."

5. Use strong verbs

Action words jump out at readers, so the more (relevant) ones you use, the better. Allison Basilica, Social Media Director at Atrium, said, "There are action words that tend to captivate the reader and highlight your accomplishments more thoroughly. Make sure you use a variety of these throughout. Examples include: achieved, managed, delegated, generated, established, increased, etc." You also want to use keywords that will connect your résumé to the type of job you want, so it pops up when recruiters look for applicants.

6. Take out your career objective

You might delve into this if you score an interview, but many recruiters believe this section is obsolete. Basilica suggests replacing it with a "qualifications" section that should be tailored specifically to the job for which you're applying.

7. Keep information short, simply and, above all, clear

Remember, whoever's reading your résumé is skimming for the big points. You want to make those big points up front in a career summary section, then outline the rest of your career with bold-titled subsections. And whatever you do, don't have any large paragraphs on there.

Dr. Heather Rothbauer-Wanis, owner of Feather Communications, told SheKnows, "When people see large blocks of text with little to no separation, they typically decide not to read the information. If you can use bullets and phrases instead of large paragraphs with complete sentences, it will be easier to capture the attention of the reader."

In today's job market, it's also acceptable to include hyperlinks on your résumé. However, you probably don't need to, because most online applications ask for those links elsewhere.

8. Font size and style are key

Not only do you want to make sure recruiters can read your résumé, but you also want it to be eye-catching. That means going with a font that's more interesting than Times New Roman. If you're applying to jobs in creative fields, you can get a bit funkier with your font style, but don't go overboard with it. Above all, it's important that the style is large and legible enough for anyone to skim quickly.

9. If you're applying for a job in a creative field... get creative!

You can and should find a less two-dimensional way to stand out from the crowd. After all, recruiters are looking to hire fully three-dimensional people, so you should find a way to show that you, in fact, are one. Kelly Poulson, Vice President of Talent & Operations at the marketing firm Allen & Gerritsen, encourages applicants to find a way to infuse a little of their personality into their résumés. If you have to send in a paper application, that's fine, but perhaps create a Tumblr page to go along with it, like this amazing one. In case you were curious, yes, she got the job.

Now that you're armed with all these great tips from professional recruiters, go out, land those interviews and start your exciting new careers!

I'm so confused by Ben Higgins' wedding nerves on Ben & Lauren

All in all, after only two episodes of Ben & Lauren, I have to say, I'm a little bit nervous for these two. They seem to be on different pages quite a lot. Higgins agreed to both the After the Final Rose special as well as brunch with JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers without really clarifying how Bushnell felt about the whole situation first. On the flip side, Bushnell was ready for the on-camera wedding, while Higgins wasn't there with her.

I'm not trying to suggest that couples don't have disagreements. Of course they do. A lot. But I think what I'm not seeing from Bushnell and Higgins yet is a teamwork-type mentality to pull them through. The conversation about their wedding should have happened long before Chris Harrison came knocking on their door. The same is true of Bushnell's insecurities about Fletcher and Higgins' relationship on the show.

I don't think it's a doomed relationship for Higgins and Bushnell. Far from it. I just think they need to work some things out before they tie the knot. I do agree with Higgins that there is no reason to rush into things. Luckily, the two seem to have recognized that too, as they recently announced they're in couples counseling. That's a healthy way for them to work together and get on the same page before their wedding.

John Stamos is speaking up about Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne's relationship

Earlier this year, it looked as though Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne's three decades of marriage was grinding to a halt after his four-year affair with Michelle Pugh was revealed. But two months ago, something pretty incredible happened: The couple decided to give their love another shot.

Since then, Sharon and Ozzy have proven that they're still very much in love, and Ozzy is willing to put in the work to ensure that his wife feels loved and appreciated (his adorable surprise appearance on The Talk for her birthday is a great example). While we're glad the couple sorted out their differences, and we're sure many fans feel the same way, there's one person who is really thrilled that the Osbournes remain an item: John Stamos.

On Tuesday, Stamos made an appearance on The Talk, and instead of speaking about himself, he shifted the focus to Sharon, asking her, "How's it going with you and Ozzy, by the way?"

The dialogue that followed was pretty sweet, with Sharon revealing that things were fine and while she remained pretty vague on the details of her marriage, she seemed to confirm that they were indeed back together. This is when Stamos got really happy (and planted a few kisses on Sharon's cheek), telling her that he views their marriage as "inspirational."

"I just love you guys as a couple," he said. "I love you guys as a couple and I'm so happy that you worked it out. Because when you have real love like that, you can power through and make it work. You're very inspirational."

Not that we needed any more reasons to like Stamos, but this certainly helped. His kind-hearted words no doubt left Sharon feeling a little happier and provided her with the comfort of knowing that a lot of people are rooting for her and her relationship, especially due to the sacrifices she has made to be with Ozzy (as well as her willingness to forgive).

Stamos just has a way about him that makes him so incredibly charming and genuine, and his nice-guy demeanor has undoubtedly left a lot of people impressed.

Russell Crowe accused of choking Azealia Banks — witness statements say otherwise

Update, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. PST: Daily Mail reports that Azealia Banks' story of her alleged altercation with Russell Crowe has been inconsistent, and that witnesses who saw everything go down didn't back up Banks' version of events.

"There were 10 people present at the time this incident occurred. They have all provided statements. All of their statements are completely inconsistent with Ms. Banks," a source told the site. "Per all of the witnesses, her erratic behavior and abusive language scared everyone there. Her bizarre antics culminated in her practically lunging across the table with a glass in her hand while threatening to slice the throats of at least two people. No one called her the "n" word. She was yelling the "n" word at everyone else."

The source claimed that Crowe did not overreact when he kicked Banks out of the party, and that even RZA, the person who invited Banks, has told police she was out of control and needed to go.

Original story:

Of all the people we could picture Azealia Banks or Russell Crowe having beef with, we never in our wildest dreams expected there'd be an altercation between the two of them. But apparently there was, and it's downright ugly.

The incident happened on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Crowe's suite in the Beverly Hills Hotel, and Banks took to Facebook on Sunday to address it — and make some very damning claims against Crowe.

According to E! News, Banks' since-deleted Facebook post read: "To recap my night, I went to a [party] at Russell crowds [sic] suite, at which he called me a n*****, choked me, threw me out and spat at me. Last night was one of the hardest nights of sleep I've had in a long time." She continued, "The men in the room allowed it to happen. I feel terrible today."

She later added that she had receipts, and to stay tuned.

But there are two very different sides to this story.

According to TMZ, Crowe invited around 10 friends over to his hotel room to have dinner and listen to music. Among the guests was rapper RZA, who reportedly brought Banks as his plus-one. However, according to eyewitnesses, Banks was incredibly rude, laughing out loud at Crowe's music selection and referring to him and at least one other guest as "boring white men."

Apparently, a female guest got involved, telling Banks to "pipe down." However, she reportedly did the complete opposite. Instead she is believed to have told them, "You would love it if I broke my glass, stabbed you guys in the throat, and blood would squirt everywhere like some real Tarantino shit."

Banks reportedly also went on to use the N-word several times, however, Crowe remained unprovoked. That was, until Banks reached for her glass and cocked it back, resulting in him grabbing her in a bear hug and carrying her out of the hotel room, where security guards removed her from the grounds.

While there are obviously two very different versions to this story, TMZ claims that four witnesses have given a statement to the police, calling Banks "erratic." The publication also claims to have been told that RZA says it was Banks who used the racial slur, and not Crowe — although neither RZA nor Crowe appear to have addressed the incident publicly.

We doubt this is the last we're going to hear about this ugly altercation.

What women still need to hear from Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

Tonight is the final debate before the United States votes for president next month. It will be a historic vote, no matter which way it goes. But for all the discussion of women in this election, it's clear that we still have a lot of questions left for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

More: Sorry Trump, but your words do matter to me

While we’re sure there will be a lot of tough questions asked of the candidates tonight, we can’t help but wish they’d tell us what they really think about issues that we care about.

To find out exactly what women are still waiting to hear from both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, we asked our Community. Their questions and topics are on point, and fingers crossed some of them get discussed during the debate.

Less character defamation, more policy

“Rather than talk about conspiracy theories or character defects and accusations, I would prefer to hear about the plans for the economy and how we can get our budget under control. I'd like to know about plans for welfare, veterans' assistance, and healthcare.” – Caroline Poser

Economic benefits for parents

“I’d really like to hear from both candidates how they truly plan to stimulate and improve the economy in this country – not only for businesses, but also for individuals. I'd like to know how voting for either of these candidates benefits me as an everyday person and mother. True livable wages (not a minimum wage increase, which only eventually strips the economy and more jobs), real opportunities to work for companies that treat their workers well, and a decrease in taxes on our wages (which make living harder). The truth is the purchase power of the dollar has continued to decrease, while taxes have increased, and the cost of healthcare has become astronomical and largely unaffordable for most families (especially under the Affordable Care Act).” – Kendall Patton

Bipartisanship

“Question for Trump: Do you think it's possible to be bring peace to a country divided on so many issues? As president, how would you work with Republicans and Democrats when so many have distanced themselves from you during the campaign?” – Ashley C.

What it will mean as a country to have a female president

“Question for Clinton: How do you think becoming the first female president would change America? Do you think the gender of the president will play a role in American politics and international affairs?” – Ashley C.

Controlling temperaments

“I wish Mr. Trump would address a few things: 1.) Your spontaneous, erratic behavior, which you laud, scares us. The gold star father's anger/attacks and your matching anger/attacks scared many in terms of your having your finger on the "button." Please address how you'll rein yourself in and surround yourself with people who aren't a laudatory bubble (as seems to happen to everyone who's a president), but who will pull you back/challenge your impulsive behavior.” – Lynne Curry

Women’s rights

“Both candidates need to address how, specifically, in their professional lives, they have worked to serve women.” – Julia Travers

“Dear Candidates - You have both raised successful daughters who appear to be devoted to giving back to the community. In what way will you ensure your daughters' rights are protected and the rights women have fought so hard for over the last hundred years are preserved? –  A woman with two daughters

“Are woman going to be treated equally and not have to worry about our religious view?” – Kathy Myers

“I want both candidates to address their views on women's health and reproductive rights. Will they protect access to contraception and a woman's right to choose?” – Karen Datangel

Restoring America’s belief in government

“I have a question for both candidates: Regardless of who wins the presidency, the truth is that both of your disapproval ratings are low, and Congress has been stalemated, which has led many young people to step away from a belief in leadership. What will you do differently than what you have done to date to restore belief?” – Lynne Curry

Fix the debt crisis

“The country has accumulated as much debt in the past eight years as was accumulated in all other years. Name two things you will do to stop the accumulation of debt and two things you will do to pay off (not down) the national debt in eight years or less.” – Susan Santoro

Tackling student loans

“Dear Hillary, 17 years ago, your husband President Bill Clinton handed me my college diploma at University of Chicago when he spoke as our commencement speaker. Coming from a similar working class background as Mr. Clinton, I funded three private university degrees largely through scholarship and on my own through student loans. Those degrees invested in my passions in writing, language and literature as well as commitment to spreading books and literacy. However, they have not translated to the wealth necessary to pay them off or even at all. I am among millions of Americans who live in the reality that the very sign of our hard work and integrity backfired: We went to schools for an education, but cannot pay our student loans back. This debt, its interest and its mental weight have influenced me away from many personal goals I had when I was that optimistic senior shaking Mr. Clinton's hand on my graduation day: buying a home, starting a family and sending my own children to school one day. What do you plan to do for Americans like me who should have hit our strides in our 30s but hit an impossible economy with student loans on our backs instead?” – Kalisha Buckhanon

Stopping sexual assault

“I would love to hear what these candidates are going to do to stop sexual assaults and verbal assaults on women in the workplace. Clearly Trump has an issue with this and obviously Bill Clinton had an issue with this so let's talk about it. Let's discuss strategy and let's find out how each candidate believes women should be treated period.” – Sarah Roe

A clear answer to the email question

“I wish Secretary Clinton would address honestly, the email question. We have learned the backstory from a variety of sources and when what we learn doesn't square with the spin she puts on it, it erodes our ability to trust what she say going forward.” – Lynne Curry

Supreme Court nominations

“I would like to hear specifics of whom each candidate proposes as a Supreme Court justice. This is a major issue that has only been brought up for the first time in the second debate, but neither candidate stated anyone specific. This is an extremely important issue to me considering what is at stake.” – Colleen Hurley
